Hello all,

So I've noticed of late that my trusty 4770k is beginning to show its age regarding intensive current games - even with quality and resolution sacrifices. While I'm not about to press the trigger on anything just yet I was curious on your thoughts about which of DS's current cases is best for a pure airflow build. For those of you who have been around for awhile you'll know that I'm the "Old Man Yells at Cloud" when it comes to liquid cooling and I don't intend on changing anytime soon. LOL

I think Cretae ranked them in a post somewhere, but I figured if I was wondering them someone else might be too - so why not make a post and ask!

For reference when I say pure airflow, I mean everything is just running on fans - no closed loops either.

Hey Tidgxor, have you upgraded your gpu?

IMO the best airflow and everything else case is the Velox. It is roomy (that Noctua fits in nicely), it is not a huge case although on the big size for a mid case, plenty of room for fans in front and on top and with the gpu on top of the cpu, its heat is going up and out instead of up into the cpu cooler.  Being an exclusive design, no one else has it to boot. What's not to like. Strong

Hi hoserator,

Thanks for the response! The Velox was what I was thinking based on the general feel of your and the other knowledgeable folks' posts but I figured no harm in making a question easily searchable on the forum!

As for my GPU I did over the original purchase, but not recently. I'm still using the 1060 I got in 2017. I've been hesitant to put much money into this old Bolt because the number of times I've had "Ah welp it's dead." moments have only went up in recent years though I have thus far managed to revive it each time. That changing anything in Bolt I is a huge PITA is also a factor. Big%20Smile

Agree the Velox is the champ if you're unwillling to have a monster in your room. The Aventum pretty much has to have good airflow due to cavernous insides and 14 fans! It would not fit in my HOUSE. There's just not a space available for such a large box anyplace I want do my gaming and other things.

The Lumos is a very attractive case IMHO if you like purty lights and pay to install them. Otherwise it's a little tighter, but is basically open air, (filtered) at every right angle seam. That's a good airflow. Our friends have convinced me the upside down mounting of the GPU in the Velox wins, sending heat away from the CPU and up and out.

Having said all that, I think your best course would be to see the rest of the Nvidia line and just how it shakes out against AMD before you decide on a new rig. Given how you use your gear, I think the 13600KF may be the perfect CPU for the long term from here.

Thanks Cretae! Aventum is also out for me. Getting too old for PCs of that size as nice as they can be to work in.

I'm still several months out from anything new - assuming the Bolt I holds up in the meantime. Appreciate the advice as always. Strong

I was going to get a Velox, but instead opted for the slightly smaller, lighter Lumos.

Keep in mind that I do not stress my computers as much as most do.

I got a Velox about 18 months ago, and it's 100% air-cooled with the Noctua DH-15S. I absolutely love this machine! It's big and roomy, but not crazy big like the Aventum. My machine has an RTX 4090 in it, which puts out a huge amount of heat. In spite of that, my temperatures never exceed 70C, and the machine is super quiet. I tweaked my fan curves so that the fans rotate at 800 RPM 99% of the time. I'm shocked at how quiet and effective the cooling can be in the Velox.

Previously I had a liquid cooled Aventum. I would never go back to that machine. It's just too big, and the Velox has the same performance.

@JamesAstro Thanks for the input! Hearing that things are working out well even with a 4090 in there is certainly encouraging.
