Can you unplug and plug in external hard drives and use them sort of like  a big floppy disk? lol

Basically can I unplug it and plug it into my other computer and run all the games I have saved on there as if they were all installed on the other computer as well? I am not quite sure how they work and if u can only use them on one computer or what not. Anyways I'd appreciate the information bc it sounds like a good place to store all my mp3s and such. thanks

Yes you can use them with other computers, they are removed just like any other USB device.  That is how I moved all of my large files from my old computer to my new DS machine.

As for Installed games, that is a little more tricky as you would have to still run the install on both computers as most games and software will place files in the System directory of the computer and may register the location of the game files as part of the process.

oh okay, thanks for clearing that up. so you can move files onto the external then off the external drive onto internal drive of my new DS machine? therefore allowing me to remove the drive completly? or do you have to leave it plugged in to gain access to the files?

You can copy files from the external drive to your internal drive and back as many times as you like. It basically works like a large thumb drive, or re-writable CD.
