If this is not the correct place for this question, please advise...

Am correct in understanding that Raid 0 takes two physically separate hard disks and combines them so that they appear to be one large hard disk?

If so, here is my actual question:

I have read various comments that drives larger than 1 TB have poorer performance than the 1 TB drives. If that is the case, would I be better off configuring my system with two 1 TB drives in Raid 0 configuration, giving me a virtual 2 TB drive with no performance reduction, as opposed to just buying a single 2 TB drive?

Thanks!!!

in raid 0 your speeds are almost double the speed of one 2TB drive, however in raid if any of the drives or the raid itself fails, you lose everything.

best option is to get a ssd for hdd1 and use a 1TB for hdd2, if you have 2TB worth of space, I would get two 1TB black caviar and have them run separately as hdd2 and hdd3, that way if one goes bad, it has nothing to do with the other.

at the end its really upto you, cause you can get two 1TB hdds in raid and nothing could ever happen or you could lose your data a few times.

but the same goes for the 2TB drive, it could work for a long time or it could die on you after a month lets say.

lol I just notice your quote in your sig and I have to say its totally wrong. and the reason is that if you ask permission you gain trust and creditability, but if you messup and have to apologize later, you lose trust and creditability, and losing those 2 is the quickest way to losing respect.
