I am going to be ordering a gaming computer from this website very soon and have a question about memory.   How big of a difference is there between the 4gig Corsair @ 667 mhz and the 4 gig corsair @ 800Mhz? Will I even notice a real difference?

That depends on the CPU and whether or not you plan on overclocking.

667 MHz RAM is theoretically fast enough to keep up with any Front Side Bus (FSB) speed upto 1333 MHZ and thus any (Intel) processor running up to 3 GHz. At least this is true for sequential reads & writes. 800 MHz memory can keep up with a 1600 MHz FSB and a 3.6 GHz CPU.

For random (nonsequential) reads & writes, memory faster than the the FSB is useful because of address and data setup times.

4 Gig of RAM is not usually recommended unless you are getting a 64-bit OS.

4G isn't recommended because a 32-bit OS can only have 4GB total.  If you have 2X512 from video memory, that eats into this 4GB limit.  I'm not sure how much the harddrive, kernal and other things take but if you assumed they took up 0 you still would only get to use 3GB of system ram.

So if I understand correctly, 4 gigs of ram would just be a waste of money because only 3 will be used? I am new to windows and dont really know a lot about computer specs, is Vista always 64 bit, or would I have to specifically pick a 64 bit version? Is there any downside to 64 bit?

The "standard" flavors of Vista are 32-bit. Vista-64 uses (wait for it...) 64-bit addressing. An OS with 32-bit addressing has a total address space of 4 Gigabytes. Your video cards will consume 1 Gig of that memory space, and other peripherals will chew up a bit more. So, you will have access to less than 3 gig of the 4 gig of physical RAM. That's not that big a deal with today's prices, but in isn't obvious that increasing your physical RAM from 2 Gig to a little less than 3 Gig is going to buy you anything.

They're dirt cheap, but I still wouldn't bother with 2 optical drives unless you do a lot of disk copying.

It's going to be a little toastie in that case. You might want to invest in an extra case fan or two.

Realize that SLI is mostly for playing at high screen resolutions. Unless you are playing games at above 1600x1200 two 8800GTs may not be worth it.

Thanks a lot for the advice I really appreciate it!!!

So I changed up a little bit of stuff. I want to go with the quad processor over the duo and I downgraded the video cards a little bit so more RAM would be used. Would this setup be able to run a high end game like crysis on one of the top settings? Would I want a higher wattage for the power? You say I might want to add more cooling but something about liquid cooling makes me a little nervous and I don see a better option than what I chose for fans. Is there anything else you would uprade or downgrade?

You don't need to worry about the address usage for the GPU's VRAM if you're using a 64-bit system. Any Vista 64 bit version can make use of more RAM than anyone is likely to install before current motherboards (not to mention DDR2) are completely obsolete.

The 8800GTS 512 is the better card, the 640MB version is older and slower.

You don't need a 750W power supply on a 650i motherboard. You can run any single card on the market with the 520W Corsair.

I'm adding the extra power just in case I have any need for it for possible future upgrades. I already placed the order, so maybe I will give DS a call tomorrow about that 8800 card. I figured the higher MB the better, guess not lol. THanks for the help guys, I am getting so excited about the new computer!!
