So I just got a little question about ram MHz and could not find a guide anywhere on here for it so I figured I would ask. Is there any difference in performance with the 6 GB Corsair Dominator GT Extreme-Performace 2000MHz RAM and the 6 GB Corsair Dominator DHX High-Performance 1866MHz or 1600MHz. I just would like to know in general what more MHz means and how they rival each other performance wise.

when comparing ram you have to take into account speed (MHz) and timing, all and all you won't notice much of a difference between the 3 anyways 99% of your PC speed comes from the CPU and 90% of your gaming performance comes from the GPU, so the HDD and ram play very minor parts

I will tell you this, its better to have 1600MHz or 1333MHz with great timing then to have 1800MHz with average/slower timing.

On synthetic benchmarks, Mhz rules with the i7. There is 2000 Mhz ram with timings as tight as most any 1333.

2000 Mhz with 8 8 8 24 timings will beat 1333 Mhz at 7 7 7 20 timings, by a large margin.
Overclocking the CPU also depends on the ram speed with the locked chips, the extreme editions are much more flexible.

But on the other hand, in day to day normal useage, you can't tell the difference between 1333Mhz, and 2000Mhz. Big%20smile

where is the huge difference? I can't even see it between 667MHz and 1600MHz let along between 1333 and 2000MHz.

and that was in games lets see other usage

Well, for 1 gaming isn't really synthetic benchmarks.. lol for 2 that is a very poor set of graphs. lol i doubt any of them are i7 so its null and void to start with. C2d systems are lucky to get 7 Gigs a second on memory bandwidth, where i7's can hit 20 gigs easily.. not with 1333 Mhz ram though lol.
If you read my previous post I said in synthetic benchmarks, sandra, everest, ect.  But I aslo said in day to day normal useage,  (gaming)  you will not notice a difference.

honestly, who cars about synthetic benchmark? we are not some kiddies trying to figure out who can score higher in benchmarks, we are adults discussing performance not benchmark scores, that my opinion on benchmarks

The test was done with core 2 quad with FSB of 1333

the i7 test also show maybe 3 second difference between 1066 and 1600MHz memory in real time use, like encoding or photoshop etc.

so in gaming or any other task you will not notice the difference

isn't that what I said to begin with? Smile

Benchmarking can be fun, it is fun to be within a few percent  of a world record,  or to beat one. Competing against guys with corporate sonsors and such.and can useful to.. some even make a career out of it. Ouch
