Is it a good idea to leave on speedfan and have the "automatic fan speed" checked? Does it benefit me like if it gets too hot it will adjust fan temps automatically or is it just the same as if it weren't on at all. My computer is running great and I want it to stay that way so I like to keep an eye on things..my CPU is running at 45+.. all others are 34 and below but the PC hasnt been on all that long either.. anyways just wanted some info on the program! and i'm lovin the PC thanks DSO

If you are going to use Speedfan to control your system's temps, you need to make very certain that Speedfan is set to run at startup. In order for Speedfan to do it's thing, you have to set fan speed to manual in the BIOS. Unless the fans are plugged into motherboard fan headers, they are going to run at 100% regardless. It's entirely possible that the only PWM controlled fan in your whole system is the CPU fan (this means Speedfan will be able to control only that one fan).
You will need to make some adjustments to Speedfan before it's ready for use. Be sure to read and follow this guide to make those adjustments for your motherboard.

I appreciate the information Tyler but wow.. that seems a little complicating. can u give me a temperature that if my CPU or anything else reaches i should look into configuring speed fan? Because if it doesnt hit that limit whatever it is i'll just leave it how it is and save myself some time ;)

Give it a try before giving up. It's not complicated in the least if you take it one step at a time. I managed to get through it in one read, and I'm just not that bright, ask my wife
Seriously, give it a shot. Speedfan is an amazing utility if you put in the 15-20 minutes it takes to learn how to use it. If you have questions as you go through it, ask, I'll try to answer as best I am able.

sigh i thought id give it a try but i have to say.. i hate tutorial guides that are typed out in an essay form.. i love the ones that say Step 1 > Do this
Step 2> do that... lol soo much easier.. if anyone knows of an easier one let me know otherwise i wont even bother bc most the ppl typing these things are typingt o ppl who already have some knowledge of working with BIOS setups ect.. so yeh.. thanks again Tyler but I cant feel good about going through all that and not having a clue if im actually doing it exactly right! +P |
