    Posted: 06 Oct 2009 at 2:33pm
 Hello,

New to the DS forums, but I have been looking at DS for my next gaming system purchase which I intend to make by end of month.

I wanted to make a built based upon the new P55 mobo/chipset (with the i7 860 CPU), but noticed under the "performance" config using the P55 that memory options are limited to either 2GB or 4GB currently.  Would it be possible to get this config but with more than 4GB (ie, preferrably 8GB) of memory?

Also - any plans/ETA for having the new Radeon 5850 or 5870 GPU's as an option?

Thanks for response in advance - I emailed the 'sales' email address these questions over a week or so ago but never heard back (which is odd considering other competitors are relatively prompt with such responding to such inquiries).

well keep in mind that the x58 platform can be updated to the next round of cpus but the p55 can't.

you can get more then 4GB of ram, but can I ask why do you need more then 4GB?

IMO wait for the Fermi coming out in nov - dec.

Hello - I am ok with the P55 mobo being limited in terms of CPU upgrade paths (versus the X58).

Regarding the GPU - I am not interested in NVIDIA, and since I need to order this system by EOM, then waiting for their next GPU launch is not an option for me anyway.

In terms of memory I would rather get as much now versus have to get more later - so what do I need to do to order the system w/ more than the configurator shows - do I have to call in the order (and how more money is 8GB of memory above the 4GB for the config below)?

Well the question is what are you doing that you might need 8GB of ram? there are very few people that will need more then 4GB of ram, for gaming there is no reason what so ever for 8GB of ram.

any reason you are not ocing the cpu?

Do you work for DS or should I just call the sales number for pricing?

Ya cause I don't work for DS, but if you don't need 8GB then don't get it, you get better OC I think with 4GB.

3.8GHz was obtainable with 8GB on one system.  The P55 boards seem to have some issues with anything over that using a crappy power supply.  Get a good 750/1000w Corsair or 1200W PC Power & Cooling if you want to go higher.
