Topic: Questions about config Posted: 01 Oct 2008 at 3:27pm |
Hello all. This is my first post on the forum so please overlook if I get the jargon wrong. After buying a XPS laptop from Dell and having a horrible experience, I have decided to cut my losses and switch to a company that cares about it's customers. I have been doing my homework for about a month now and have decided to go w/ DS for my new comp.
If you all could please give this configuration a "once over" and let me know what you think. I was going to initially buy just one 280 GTX video card and get a second one later on down the road, but I was advised by Kelly at DS to go ahead and get two 260 GTX now. This way they could install and set them up as well as cover both with the warrenty. He also mentioned that there is not a noticable difference in performance between the two (280 and 260 sli). And, from what I can tell they both rock!! He also advised me to go ahead and get the faster memory instead of trying to O.C. My budget is.....was around $3,250. My current set up is $3,490. I don't have a monitor yet, but I am hoping to find a deal on a nice 22". http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=189480 Chassis: Cooler Master HAF 932Thanks, |

Kelly is right, better to get it now, but with 2 cards you will need a minimum of a 860w psu, and yes you won't notice the difference between 2 x 260 vs 2 x 280.
here you go Ticket# 189593 --- Price: $3415 (To see this build click here) Copy of Specifications: Chassis: Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Interior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Power Supply: 860W PC Power & Cooling (ESA Edition) (Dual SLI Compatible) Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.0GHz (1333MHz FSB) (12MB Cache) Motherboard: nVidia 790i Ultra Core 2 Quad (nForce 790i Ultra SLI) (DDR3 Only) System Memory: 4GB DDR3 1333MHz OCZ Card Reader: External USB Digital Media Card Reader (Black) Hard Drive 1: 300GB Western Digital VelociRaptor (10K RPM) (16MB Cache) (Extreme Speed) Hard Drive 2: - No Thanks Raid Option: - No Thanks Hard Drive 3: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) (LightScribe Edition) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Wireless Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 2x SLI Dual (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 896MB (Includes PhysX Technology) TV Tuner: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: Liquid Chilled FrostBite CPU Only Internal Lighting: Blizzard Internal Lighting (Red Edition) (Cold Cathode Tubes) Modifications: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Yes, Overclock the processor as much as possible with complete stability Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: Yes, Overclock memory timings (Includes Memory Fan Kit Installed) Tweak Windows: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) (For Enthusiasts) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks LCD Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty also recommend you raise your warranty to 5 years. if I drop your ram OC there and up the ram to 1600MHz then the price gets even higher ($3454). and you get no ram fan, and when your PC is not oced you can use the 1600MHz you could only use 1333Mhz. I have put myself in your shoes and that is the system I would buy if I were in your shoes. the rest is upto you good luck Edited by DST4ME - 01 Oct 2008 at 3:55pm |

Thanks for the input DST4ME. Although I am a little confused about your commit regarding memory. Are you saying that if I didn't OC then the 1600MHz would be good, but if I do OC then the 1333MHz will suffice? Also, you suggest no NVIDIA ESA? My take on that was, it may not be useful since DS already "tweaks" the system, but I do like the customization option. Thanks for your opinion.

if you don't OC 1600Mhz is a waste, if you don't OC or do OC the 1333MHz is not a waste. esa: if you like to keep messing with settings then get it but if you don't, then yes DS sets them for you. |

As much as I don't like physX, I can't say I agree.
