Topic: Questions about Liquid Cooling Systems and Bolt Posted: 24 Apr 2021 at 7:26pm |
Wow... Ok first off this reminds me of the old message boards back in the day. Anyways, I have a few questions for the users of liquid cooled systems from DS. I just bought a rig that I'll post below. My questions are:
What coolant do they use in the systems? (I ordered the red.) The loop looks really easy to disconnect with the quick disconnect they install? Should I put anything on the rest of the rig when I change it once a year? Has anyone had problems with upgrading the graphics card in the Bolt models? It seems like you would have to pick and choose very carefully when you get a new card in the future. I CAN'T WAIT!!! I'M SO HYPE!!! My little bro is going to order one in a few months too. Right now our current builds are so old they can barely run Hearthstone at a stable framerate. Thanks for your time and consideration, MDK System Configuration: Chassis Model: Digital Storm BOLT X Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Side Window: Edge to Edge Premium Tempered Glass Processor: Intel Core i9-10850K (5.2 GHz Turbo) (20-Thread) (10-Core) 3.6 GHz Motherboard: ASU STRIX Z490-I Gaming / MSI MEG Z490-I UNIFY (Wi-Fi) (Z490 Chipset) (Mini-ITX) (Up to 1x PCI-E) System Memory: 64GB DDR4 3200MHz Digital Storm Performance Series Power Supply: 800W Digital Storm Performance Series (Modular) (80 Plus Platinum) (Supports up to RTX 3080) Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Optical Drive: - No Thanks Storage Set 1: 1x SSD M.2 (500GB Digital Storm M.2 Performance Series) Storage Set 2: 1x Storage (2TB Seagate / Toshiba / Hitachi) Storage Set 3: - No Thanks RAID Config: - No Thanks RAID Card: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Graphics Card(s): 1x GeForce RTX 3070 8GB (Performance Edition) (VR Ready) Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Add On Card: - No Thanks Extreme Cooling: Digital Storm HydroLux PRO LITE (CPU Only) HydroLux Tubing Style: HardLine Tubing (Requires HydroLux PRO Custom Liquid Cooling System) HydroLux Fluid Color: Red Fluid + Clear Tubing (Requires HydroLux Liquid Cooling System) Cable Management: Premium Cable Management (Strategically Routed & Organized for Airflow) Chassis Fans: Standard Black Fans Internal Lighting: Remote Controlled Advanced RGB Internal + Front Panel LED Lighting Airflow Control: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks LaserMark: - No Thanks CPU Boost: Stock Factory Turbo Boost Advanced Automatic Overclocking Graphics: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) OS Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home (64-Bit) Recovery Tools: USB Drive - Windows 10 Installation (Format and Clean Install) Virus Protection: Windows Defender Antivirus (Built-in to Windows 10) Office: - No Thanks Mouse Pad: - No Thanks Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks Branded Gear: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 30-35 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: Life-time Expert Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty (3 Year Labor & 1 Year Part Replacement) Edited by MetaknightDK - 24 Apr 2021 at 8:19pm |

About all I know about liquid cooling is that you MUST use exactly what came in your system to add more. Buy extra from DS now, before you need it, and while it's available.
If you have not progressed past Stage 4 in your order, you should change Storage 1 to an NVMe M.2 SSD. You have chosen the absolutely slowest SSD for your primary drive. It's a SATA part, the NVMes run on PCIe and are easily from 7x to up to 10x faster. Note none of the DS Performance Series say "NVM Express". Do not pay extra for a Samsung 980 PRO. On an Intel system it will not run much faster than a 970 EVO plus. The best bang for buck is a 500TB Firecuda. There is no conceivable way you will ever use/need 64 Gb of RAM for gaming. Above 32 GB is a total waste of your money. Get 32 GB if you must, but put that extra into a 1TB Samsung EVO SSD for Storage 2. You will never regret that. DS is happy to accommodate changes to your order at any time, but prior to stage 4 is best for no delays. The Bolt is very tight quarters with special mobo, special PSUs to fit. You will always have to be very aware of size in the parts you upgrade. |
