Alright i'll just number my questions so there a bit better organized.

1. Hardrive- I have been looking online at information about the Velociraptor versus a standard 7200rpm drive. From what i've read it basically said that if your an impatient person than you'll really see a difference, but if not than the results aren't really worth the extra cash. Is this true and if so what is the real difference in the amount of time that it will take to startup and load games?

2. SLI- I have been looking at 2xGTX 295's or 3x285's. What is the real difference between the two and is it really worth it? Also, if I were to get the 3x285's what are the cooling ramifications? From the picks I've seen it looks like when you Tri-SLI that the fans are blocked completely from the other cards. Would the 4 fans on the side of the HAF help alliviate that?

3. RAM- I have been looking around and they added the Muskin ram, is it really better because they have recommended with that now. Also, is there any real tangiable difference between 12gigs and 6gigs? I plan on keeping my computer for awhile so would be wise just to get 12gigs now or add my own down the road?

4.Cooling-Ok I've asked questions on this before, but I see alot of conflicting stuff. I like the exhaust fan at the top of the HAF case and dont want to lose that so if I were to SLI and do the V8 would the cooling in the case be good enough, or would I not see much of a difference if I LC and got rid of the exhaust fan on top and put a dual Radiator on the top? Does the liquid cooling far surpass the V8 in terms of potential overclock with the i7 920 or is it about the same? How much further could I push the overclock with liquid versus air?

1. startup and load games will be faster yes how ever game play also is helped with better seek time. but this falls at the bottom of important things.

2. 3 x 285 beat the 2 x 295 but the 3 x 285 cost more and the difference is only 10 to 15 fps, which is very little and not worth it IMO.

also you have no use for 3 x 285 or 2 x 295 unless you have a resolution of 2560 x 1600 or higher.

the fan on the HAF should do you fine, most of your cooling will come from the GPUs fans themselves, and they are not blocked

3. not sure when you/we will need 12GB of ram but its not gonna be while you own this pc, 6GB is a bit overkill on its own. You have the same warranty on all rams here, so basically we are tallking toyota or honda.

4. you need to get to know the haf case bette, your got your exhaust fans mixed up. the only exhaust is in the back the rest of the fans blow air in, the top, side and front fans all blow air in, which is what you want.

as for lc vs air, here is what DS has to say about it officialy:

a. Air Cooling – This type of cooling uses fans to move air throughout your computer chassis to cool your computer hardware. This form of cooling is relatively affordable and effective. However, air cooling has its limits and isn’t as effective as liquid cooling.

b. Liquid Cooling – This type of cooling utilizes specially formulated liquid to regulate the heat generated by the different components in your system. A complete system consists of a: pump, reservoir tank, liquid blocks, and radiator. Liquid cooling in general increases overclocks significantly compared to air cooling.

liquid cooling will leave you with more room to push, how much OC you get depends on the chip first then on cooling method.

why go with 1333mhz ram? i doubt you would see much performance gain over 1066 ddr2

go with 1866 or 1600mhz

Well from what i've heard on the forms the i7 920 can only use up to the 1333mhz ram. But coming from 400 DDR I'll probally tell a difference at any speed at this point lol.

the 920 and 940 can't make use of the 1866MHz ram only the 965 and the upcoming 975 can do 1600+.

@tworattle, your build looks great you forgot to pic your liquid coloer and lights for the system so try this:

The reason why Mushkin is recommended is because we have gained access to have them specially test the memory before it ships to us. And soon, they are going to produce an exclusive Digital Storm edition for us with our logo on them.

These memory modules are simply binned and tested more extensively than regular modules.

Warm Regards,
Alex

This is the final config I came up with btw. I added an extra year to the warranty figured it was worth it. I also just did the standard lighting. Btw how bright is the lighting because I play at night most of the time and I dont really want to be blinded lol.

920 and 940 can do upto 1600MHz but intel supports 1066 themselves.

no your mobo will run it but your cpu's memory controller maxes at 1600MHz with the 920 and 940. the 965 can override the memory controller frequency.
