Hello folks!

I have been lurking here and other sites for the last few weeks - trying to decide where to get my new computer.  I think I've settled on Digital Storm, but I had a few last minute questions.

Computer will be used 75% games, 15% work, 10% internet

1.  Quad Core or Dual Core?  Why? Does DS offer Overclocking on either?  I didn't see an option in the build menu.

2.  Single 8800 Ultra or lesser cards in SLI?  (Dell 27" 1920x1200 is my monitor)

3.  Windows XP or Vista?  Why?

Any other suggestions anyone might have for a PC at the $2500-$2750 level would be appreciated.

That's it for now, thanks for any help anyone has to offer.

Yes, Digital Storm offers overclocking. The Q6600 can overclock to ~3GHz. It depends on what you going to be doing. If you don't plan on upgrading then the quad would be a smart investment. If you do, then you could go either way.

Single Ultra, add another later. Or single GTX and upgrade to 9800 in the future.

Vista because it is going to be standard in the next year or so. You don't want to be paying $100 extra to upgrade sometime next year. There is really nothing wrong with Vista... The only problems lie in x64.

Thanks for your reply.

This is what I have come up with so far.  Truthfully, the chances that I will upgrade vs. purchase new in a few years is slim, so I'm really lookin for something that will get me a little mileage.

If I decide to build in a little upgradeability and went with a 1k power supply and a single 8800 Ultra, would I need to get the exact same video card to enable SLI or would any 8800 Ultra work?

Also, can I assume that DS will OC the 6600 to 3Ghz or will they ship it with stock 2.4Ghz?

Thanks again.

Any 8800 Ultra will work for SLI. The lower clocked GPU has to be in the first slot or you going to have issues.

I do believe they overclock to 3ghz if you choose stage 3 air cooling.

SLI 8800 GTS 640mb is a waste of electricity and money. A single GTX performs just as well and uses less electricity. Also $200 cheaper.

You really don't need SLI unless you're playing on a big screen, 32" or more. I would also go with a single 8800GTX 768MB rather than 2x 8800GTS 640MB, since they cost about the same. DS will OC your CPU to about 3.1Ghz with the stage 3 option, according to Alex. I would also go with the 1066 Mhz Corsair RAM instead for better performance, easier to OC and future proof.
