Topic: Questions! Posted: 07 Dec 2009 at 10:59pm |
Hey there everyone! I'm currently shopping around for a new gaming computer. Ive been using this alienware for what will be 4 years come January. Ive heard nothing but praise about Digital Storm and im interested in doing business with you guys! Now my budget is around $2300, I do not need a keyboard/mouse or monitor. I have a good speaker system already.
I did have a configuration but I somehow failed at keyboarding 101 and lost it. So if any of you can suggest a loadout that will work I would greatly appreciate it. I do have 2 questions, one is about liquid vs air cooling. I was hoping somebody could explain the difference in performance/value. If having one or the other will prolong component life etc. And the last one is about how the system is shipped. I was wondering what was meant by "wooden crate" being an option? Im pretty far away from DS's HQ. So if thats something you guys offer I would love to have more information about it! Thank you |

LC gives better load temps which in turn could help prolong the life of the component, but its not a necessity unless your room temp is 80f or higher. This the frostchill/subzero systems we are talking about here and not asetek.
wooden crate is an option for $200 extra, you get your pc shipped in a wooden crate pretty much elimination any chance of shipping damage. I leave on the east coast (DC) and I'm going with one. What resolution will you be gaming at? |

Oh and another thing about CPU overclocking I know the performance is great and all but will it have a noticable effect on the components life? Edited by Omegaron - 08 Dec 2009 at 12:49am |

The CPU will last probably 10 years overclocked depending on heat and vcore used.
The motherboard is hard to predict, but I have been running mine 24/7 overclocked to 4GHz+ for a year now and no issues yet. |

Sorry what I meant to say for the price is the performance increase worth the risk of having complications due to overclocking down the road? What they offer is OCing the 2.6 to be around the one that is $500 more. To me thats pretty good heheh.

complications are not normal so you should be fine, the performance is the biggest impact on the pc speed, your cpu speed is your pc speed and this case you are taking it from 2.6 to 3.7 or so, that is a big impact on how fast everything will work.

I would highly recommend getting the CPU overclocked, even with the risk of a rare complication down the road.
Hell I'd overclock even if it was only going to last me one year; because the speed and time saved greatly outweighs the risk and cost to replace parts. |
