Ive always wanted to go with water cooling, I absolutley hate hearing the noise of the fans.  My game room is near the back of the house, so there is little to no outside noise.  By that I mean anything besides the game im playing.  So water cooling was personally ideal for me.

And on the HDD part, thats pretty much what im going for.  I dont load my PCs with much software.  The 500gb HDD is for storage, music and movies mostly.  The VR will hold the OS and my games.

I'll agree the driver support from NVIDIA has been garbage... especially when they first release a new card.  But I wouldn't go as far as saying that all together its garbage.  Isnt the Vantage record holder placed with nvidia chipset/cards? Hug

HM you have not had the gtx 260 and 280, and from what I see in other forums, 260 and 280 are kicking 4870's butt

I like the velociraptor and 500GB setup he has.

veloci for OS/apps and games and the second hdd for media/personal files.

good build Pantalones, I would have build that the same way

the 4870x2 is one card though isnt it? the 260s and 280s dont have that tech yet from what I understand.
As in the 4870x2 = 1 vid card by itself
and 2x 260gtx/280 = 2 cards in sli
That being said (if it is correct) it seems that if you get 2 of the 4870x2 in crossfire mode, you would smoke the 280s. just me, and I am a <newb> so please dont flame to hard :)

Matt---FINALLY LEAVING IRAQ----

PS Finished ordering my rig, pron to follow sometime soon....keep your eyes peeled.

ok yes 4870x2 is the new card but for that price its not worth it, by the time it is, nvidia will have one that will kill it.

keeping my eye out for your rig specs nad pics

I love the pics and the review would be great, don't forget to mention your OC speed, I have not seen to many q9550 with the 1333 ddr3 so looking to see if there is a big difference or not.

your ddr2 brother would have come in at between 3.4 to 3.6, mostly the lower number, lets see what happens.

I spoke with Customer Service and they said the same thing... 3.4 - 3.6.  But Ive been hoping a few forums and people with similar builds are getting that on air.  since im on water, im hoping to see maybe 3.6 - 3.8.  well see soon, i hope.

Well here is how its gonna work, ultimately, you will be able to tweak it better then how you get it

there are plenty of people here that have adjusted their systems to have higher OC then what they got from DS I'm hopping to see 3.6 - 3.8 myself, but if you get it 3.6 then I think you can tweak it yourself to achieve at-least 3.8 if not more

Yeah, im kinda new to OCing.  But im sure between DSO tech. support and the fourms i can figure it out.

I think i read it on hard forums, one guy was bragging that he got the q9550 to 4.04 on air.  But im not looking to push it that much.  i just want it high enoough so the cpu isnt the bottle neck of system as a whole.

well the chips are not all a like either, you never know, and I'm sure on other forums you can find many people and topics that will help turn you to an expert with a 3.8 - 4.0 OC speed

You had to get started somewhere, well now that you got a DS system, you have no choice but to learn to OC, otherwise you got power sitting there that you could possibly be missing out on

after this system, your next system, you will be very clear what you want

can't wait to see your review
