Hello...need some advice on a quiet game rig please.
Actually I do not plan to do much gaming and will use it for working CAD and graphic rendering, but I am sure games will be in my future. I will not be overclocking, but will have will have a decent video card. Which case is best for noise suppression and what components offer quieter operation and why? Also, which type of cooler offers the quietest operation; air or liquid. Thanks....ravens |

You want a chassis that isn't an open air style.
I would recommend the Assassin chassis. It's very quiet and very efficient in cooling and air setup. All of our review systems now use our Assassin chassis because of this. The Noctua coolers are fairly quiet. I recommend posting a thread in our 'Configuration Discussion' area where you can also post specs of what you are interested in, your budget, etc... |

Quiet chassis = Raven 1, Raven 2, Assassin (FT02, based off Raven 2 Chassis), HAF 932 (Opting for standard 200mm fans), HAF 922 (Opting for standard 200mm fans)
Add a noise suppression package. Air cooling noise is barely audible.Actually, noise produced by internal coolers is significantly muffled because they're inside the belly of the case. Trust me, I have a Venomous X cooler, and the fan I run on it I also used as case fans. The case fans were so loud, I undervolted them. The same fan type on the Venomous X cooler, stuck inside my system, I didn't have to undervolt at all, could barely hear it. Liquid Cooling is also fairly quiet, depending on where you mount the pump. I dunno, leave a note to put the pump in the most noise isolated place? If ya go for the Raven 1, I know you can easily stuff the pump at the bottom of the case where the PSU compartment is. Don't go dual loop though, because that means two pumps. I'd just recommend a FrostChill loop, it only needs one radiator, which can easily be mounted to the primary CPU exhaust fan on any case. ATI video cards, Fermi's have a tendency to blow out a lottt of heat Overclock. Why not? CPU coolers here are normally hooked up to standard 3-pin PWM headers. 4-pin PWM is when the motherboard can control fan speed, so 4-Pin PWM fans naturally get louder if you overclock. Most aftermarket CPU coolers use 3-pin PWM, so they're not controlled much. Overclocking therefore really doesn't do anything to fan noise. If you're worried about ambient temperature, well, cases are specifically designed with a 120mm fan smack in front of where the air cooler would go. So air coolers immediately have a one-way ticket for exhaust. Liquid cooling wise, you can just slap the radiator to that fan instead. :D Edited by ablahblah - 29 Jun 2010 at 12:48pm |
