Topic: QX9650 - what am I getting?Posted: 26 Nov 2007 at 3:26pm |

I was just about to order a decked out machine with the QX9650 at it's heart, when I heard from various boards that the 680i motherboards do not support it. The online form for configuration doesn't mention anything about this, so my question is, what do I get for a motherboard? I don't crossfire, I am looking at getting dual 8800 gtx's in the system.
Thanks for any info,
Bill

Do you want dual cards for multiple monitors or do you want SLI? I'm assuming you want SLI...
There are currently no motherboards that support the QX9650 and SLI. So that option is not possible atm. You will have to wait until Q1 08 for Nvidia to release the 780i motherboards which will support the QX9650 and SLI. If you want the QX9650 right now, you have no other option but to get a motherboard without SLI support. Edited by skyR - 26 Nov 2007 at 3:40pm |

The Asus Maximus supports the QX9650 but does not support SLI.

As of today, we just started to carry the Maximum Formula and offer a CrossFire setup of two Rade on 3870 video cards.

the 3870's are going to be added to the GPU choices or will you have to call and request?
also is this MOBO better for OC'ing? Edited by sundowner - 26 Nov 2007 at 9:26pm |

My question is this right now:
At this very point in time, is not a 680 i and SLI 8800 GTX and a QX6850 with 4 G RAM not really overkill? I mean, really, thats what I am getting so that I am future proofed for sometime and you tell me a game around that THIS set up is not going to ROCK?
One thing I have learned with the game computer world, you can not keep chasing technology. Heck, what ever system you get, in 3 months its obsolete.
Right? Edited by Dog Lover - 27 Nov 2007 at 7:16pm |

Dog Lover, your system will be more than able to play crysis at max settings and any game at max settings so you have nothing to worry about |

It is overkill =x You aren't really being future proof since your CPU is alrdy top of the line, you would only be able to upgrade the GPU =\

Exactly.
I got this as high end as I could afford.
My last rig lasted me through some great gaming for about 8 years. I had to upgrade the video card twice and the memory 3 times, but, heck.. 8 years!
This is why I went with DSO and the best system in my budget. I will be able to upgrade it too when the time comes.
I hope to get a good 8 years or more from it! Edited by Dog Lover - 28 Nov 2007 at 8:19am |

Processor wise, it's more than 3 months for a product to go obsolete.
Game designers have yet to begin to design games for Quad's, hell
they've barely started to design for C2D's. Although the higher mhz the
better for overall performance, if you get the q6600 you'll be set
until things get hectic with the nehalem project.
