Ive decided to order a new system soon and I can really decide between the qx9770 and the qx9650....will the qx9770 overclock better than the qx9650 and is the 400$ increase really worth it? EDIT: err im not sure if this is the right forum...

here is a few things to thing about, the max that mombo can go is a qx9770.
so lets say you go with the qx9650 pay $1200. next year the qx9770 is say $800, you decide to upgrade and end-up with $2000. now if you go with the qx9770 you pay less and you get it now. its not exactly like that but the above is an example so you get the idea of what I mean. also yes the qx9770 will clock better. The qx9770 starts at 3.2GHz where the qx9650 starts at 3.0GHz, you are starting at a higher platform, so you when done right you should get more out of the qx9770. you got liquid cooling and DS does it right so sky is the limit. Its no mistake that the top of the line system at DS which has the highest OC runs the brother of the QX9770, which the QX9775. Duplicate chips, different sockets. you are spending top dollar, so get the best they got now, otherwise you kick yourself and wish that you had gotten the QX9770 Edited by DST4ME - 17 Sep 2008 at 6:28pm |

QX9770 (C1 stepping) will clock better than a QX9650.
But if the QX9770 is not a C1 stepping, they are basically identical. With the only difference being the QX9770 comes with a 400 FSB (aka QX9650 overclocked by Intel Lol). If you are going to spend $1400 on a processor. Might as well wait until late October for Nehalem -_-' |

skyr, they are not similar,
the QX9770 is the Xeon chip x5482 with multipliers removed while the QX9650 is the Xeon chip x5472 with the multiplier removed. 2 different chips. I agree on waiting on nehalem, which is what I'm doing myself Edited by DST4ME - 17 Sep 2008 at 7:43pm |

Well I use a QX9650 and I havent found anything to max it out. I was burning a dvd and encoding a video file AND playing Supreme commander at the same time and the qx9650 barely hit 28% usage. I feel I overbought on the cpu because I cant utilize it all. I would suggest go with the qx9650 and use the xtra cash for the best video cards, or watever $400 bucks will buy ya
