I am not familiar with this processor. Googled but not great results.
Does this processor only work in the new dual chip mobo?
I just might be able to order a DSO in March after the X2 comes out and I need to understand a few of these details.
When I do get ready to order I am going to need lots of help from forum members on my configuration. This maybe the last great machine I will be able to buy.

You need a motherboard that supports 1600 FSB. Currently only the X38, X48, and some P35 boards have support for a 1600 FSB.

Intel is a regular stop of mine. The comparison ability for the processors makes very informative.
I just didn't understand the application of the QX9775 and what it offered over existing processors.
That is probably as clear as mud, but that's the state of my befuddled brain trying to make choices with all these options.

The QX9770 offers the bleeding-edge of what Intel has to offer.
Personally, though, I see it as more of a badge than anything else. I mean, sure it feels good to tell everyone that you have the most expensive, top notch CPU, but someone else is only gonna laugh in your face a month later when it's no longer king, and you're $1800 in the hole with a CPU that you aren't even fully utilizing. One of the important details to consider when choosing components for your system is the price:performance ratio. Unless you're doing major video editing, file compressing, or running several virtual machines, you will see almost no difference. YMMV. |
