I'm not sure if any of you are subscribers, but Games for Windows magazine, formerly known as Computer Gaming World, announced today that it is ceasing publication.  It is retaining its editorial staff, which will be sprucing up the PC gaming content at 1up.com.  CGW/GFW were around for 27 years.

A year or two ago, Computer Games magazine folded.  That leaves only PC Gamer.

I'm sure we'll see many people say this is evidence of the decline of PC gaming, but I think it has just as much to do with the decline of print publications in general.

I was a big fan of CGW back in the70s and 80s, but somewhere along the way it became just another gaming magazine. Then all gaming magazines became an endangered species. Frankly, I'm amazed that there are any computer related print magazines left.

Well, there's always the bathroom . . .   Smile  I might have to actually start reading books again.

Actually I got into a new mag that started last year and only lasted for 3 or 4 issues; it was actually a really good rag too that I read from cover to cover.  It was called Massive when it first came out; then they changed the name; then it was over.  So hard to find a good rag for pc gaming.

Ah, that was a magazine on MMO's wasn't it?  If it is the one I'm thinking of, it was made by the same folks who made Computer Games magazine (which was really 1 or 2 editors, and a bunch of contributors).  From what I understand, both magazines were owned by a parent company (The Globe, maybe?) that ran afoul of the can-spam Act, for spam ads somewhere, like myspace maybe.  Due to that penalty, they ended up shutting the magazines down.  That magazine was probably the most intelligent out of all the PC gaming mags.
