    Posted: 12 Sep 2008 at 2:42pm
Hello, I'am not very knowledgeable with computers, so i had to ask if combining 2x Radeon 4870X2 with a Nvidia 790i board, will use the full potential of the radeon 4870X2 card since there is no crossfire?

Or should i use an intel board instead with crossfire? and which is best with ATI Radeon cards with DDR3 Ram slots aswell?

Thank you

i hate to burst your bubble but dont think you can use a radeon anything on a 790i motherboard..strictly for nvidia and sli...there are many boards on the market that use intel chips and are made for crossfire...gigabyte naming just one..shop around if thats what you want

You can not use CrossfireX on nvidia boards. You can put two radeon cards in there to be able to use 4 monitors but CrossfireX will not be enabled.

Asus Rampage Extreme

If anything this is the Nvidia 790i Ultra equivalent for Radeon cards.  (Only has two PCI-E x 16 2.0 Express slots, then again I brought this up because you're only gonna be using two 4870x2s, which is good so you'll have an exact two slots to use heh)

Here's another but with 3 PCI-E x16 slots ASUS P5E3 PREMIUM (Not ROG though)

The first one though is an ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand type from Asus, reviews on these products rank very high on the 9/10 scale alot of the times.

You can give Digital Storm a call to custom order that if you want.

I forgot to mention that reason being the 9/10 is due to the overclocking potential.

And strictly speaking, if I was gonna go for a Radeon approach I would've swapped the Striker II Extreme (the Asus brand for 790i Ultra). for the Rampage Extreme ahah.

One thing I'm curious,  why does Newegg present two of the same product at two different prices?  New and used or something?

There's retail and open box (means it was returned by customer but recertified).
