POWER REQUIREMENTS
A single Radeon HD4870 requires a minimum of 400W and two Radeon HD4870 in CrossfireX requires a minimum of 500W.

The Radeon HD4870 is set be available during the first week of July at a MSRP of $299 (512MB vers).

Though I'd realy like to get my hands on GTX 280, I think I'll wait till Nvidia pulls its head out of you know where and lowers the the price so as to compete with Radeon 4870.

Wow. To run Crosfire with the Radeon HD4870 would cost $600+tax. The price of 1 GTX280,. With the HD4870 in Crosfire you are almost getting the same power of the gtx280s in sli. At half the cost. Well I guess it would be 20% slower According to this. But thats not bad for half the price.  Seems good to me.

I'm happy to see ATI back in the game. Now, if AMD can show signs of catching up! Once they can get 45nm tech goin on they will be solid.

I dont think Nvidia can lower their prices without taking a loss, the GT200 line is extremely inefficent when it comes to the waffers. Im kinda pissed I got a SLI mobo now haha....Then again one 4870GX2 DDR5 will make me a happy boy...

i think its defiantly an impressive release, expecially considering the price difference. honestly i never had much respect for ati but im glad to see that someone will have nvidia looking over thier shoulders a little. the only negative thing i could think to say about the cards is that the curve isnt increasing by any staggering amount, (again price is a factor) but im always on the lookout for the benchmark comparisons that show a competition crushing result across the board. its just like i mentioned on another thread though, while the price is commendable, i feel that someone sinking over 2 or even 3 thousand into a computer wouldnt really bat an eye at the few hundred bucks with such a strong nvidia trend. but who knows, maybe this will open the field back up

Do keep one extra point in mind though: All the new NVIDIA cards (9000 series and above, i think) have full software support for the AGIEA physics engine, already used in several games.  I think that warrents a few extra $$, but its largely up to the buyer.
 
I'm also waiting to see if ATI can finally put out decent driver support over the life of the card.  I know NVIDIA has slipped recently with its driver support, but they still tend to have many more games that run much better. 
 
Finally, remember how the old ATI cards had issues with OpenGL based games (read: DOOM 3)?  I wonder if that trend will continue...I'm still surprised so few people actually test OpenGL rendering on these cards, as enough games are made with the engine each year...
