Is that card actually crushing the GTX280 in SLI in AoC? Wow. Perhaps just a very selective choice of resolutions and settings to cast the best possible light on this new card, but still... Wow.

How is the 4870 core gaining power when being mushed togehter with another one? As its beating its single version cards in crossfire. Looks like newegg is getting a return of my 280s haha...yes they will take 15% away so i lose some cash, but who cares.

why on earth would you want to crossfire a card that averages 40 in crysis at 1920x1200

Very nice.

Alex, when will DSO start offering HD4870X2?

Also, I wonder what's Nvidia up to in terms of its own X2 part.

The NDA was lifted today (July 14th) but the cards themselves aren't going to be available until end July / early August.

So two cards outperform one by a little bit. Shouldn't this be expected?

The GX2 beats the 280 in many areas as well. Not a fair comparison it would seem. Its a superior single card option I suppose, except that its not really a single card.

The important thing, is the bottom line. How much performance for how much money, and how well does it scale with a second card. I don't really care how they get there if the performance is right for the price.

I agree. This is one of the debates I have with myself as I'm trying to decide which way I want to go when I buy in the next 3 months or so.

It looks like a great card, and from the looks of things most all the single cards SLId/crossfired, beat the equivalent double card, as the 9800GTX in SLI beats the 9800GX2 in most every benchmark.

I think the main thing is it allows quad SLI or crossfire for those truly interested in just sinking a fortune into 5 or 10 extra FPS Star

Not in my budget, but then again, I am still impressed by 9800 GTX in 2xSLI at default clock speed with a Q9450, so maybe I am too easy to impress, or just do not play games at high enough rez to really kill my cards (1680x1050 on my 22" samsung) and it is perfect, even Conan plays like a dream at that resolution on my hardware Clap

What I want to see:

2x NVIDIA 280
2x ATI 4870
ATI 4870x2

Compare these three setups against each other.  Then let the talking begin.  ATI fanboys cried fowl when the 3870 was compared against the 9800 GX2 in benchmarks, now NVIDIA fanboys will do the same.

Someone, find a link to put this discussion to bed, once and for all.

"Cried fowl" - that's a good one. Apparently ATI has a barnyard theme going. Sorry gamerk, couldn't resist!
