Happy Friday-
I was wondering if someone could shed some light on some RAID-0 and a SLI/Xfire questions I have. First off, I was wondering if there is any benefit from assembling not 2, but 3 Intel 80g SSDs in RAID. I expect there would be a performance increase but as I'm not too familiar with RAID I would like someone else's input. Would I reach a bottleneck with the SATA bus? Would the performance increase from 2 to 3 be so negligible that no human could even tell? Do you enter the realm of "It's better than yours just because it has 3" without having any benefit?
Secondly, I currently have a 26.5" Samsung display that I use. I am planning on taking a step up to a monitor that can display 2560x1600 (say good bye to 4xAA). With such a high resolution would I be better off Xfire'ing 5970's or potentially Tri-SLI'ing 480's (if I'm not mistaking the price is somewhat comparable ~$300).
And lasty (I know this is getting wordy), does anyone have a good recommendation for a 30"ish monitor that I would use obviously to achieve 2560x1600. I've been shopping around for a few weeks and have seen nothing but mixed reviews.
Thanks for your time. Edited by Aroberts0820 - 30 Jul 2010 at 7:23pm |

For SSD I would go with the Intel 160Gb, and if that was not enough capacity, RAID 0 them. RAID 0 will help in the transfer of larger files, but not so much on smaller files. Also with RAID you lose the TRIM function, not a big deal, but just thought I wuld let you know.
If you want a 30" monitor, most all are pretty good.. lol for $1,000-1,300 they should be.
For GPU's, 2 GTX 480's would be the minimum, and 3 GTX 480's would be good as you can get right now.. 2 5970's will not game as well as 3 5870's.
