DST4ME you never put raid 0 in any of the configs. you post, it is always a single harddrive@10000 rpms. Why is that ??

because after using raid for a year, I found it not worth the pain, and a 10000rpm is kickarse HDD.
with raid 0 one drive goes bad, you lose data on both drives. if you want to move the install to another PC or backup or what ever, its just a pain. put a velociraptor next to a raid of 7200, if there is a difference, its gonna be minimal. |

How much of a pain is it to back up data to a third or external HDD? Should I have DS install a third HDD and configure my new pc to auto backup files and game saves??

to backup your os drive you need to do so to an external drive, cause if the clone drive is present, windows will destroy its mbr, and keep only its own.
I suggest you gen an external and clone your drive once a week if not more often then that. |

How do you clone your HDD and what does it clone, the whole drive os included or just files you pick to clone. Also can you recommend a good external HDD?

I like to get a HDD and an enclosure and basically make my own external.
choose your HDD choose your enclosure I use this one or this one (same case different color) you can do Ide or sata in that, it has both usb or esata clone duplicate the whole drive. to clone using Acronis you can go to my post here and see the visual walk thru
now this case gets turned on, you clone to it, then it gets turned off. if you ever choose an enclosure to use for a HDD thats always on, then get one with a fan in it and not the two I have listed that I use, those 2 are for cloning and not meant to stay on for too long.Edited by DST4ME - 16 Oct 2008 at 5:52am |
