Hey everyone,
The question is how difficult is it setting up raid on SSD's or HDD's. When I've saved up for the dream machine I'll start with 2x 128GB Samsung 850 PRO in Raid 0, let DS handle that. Then I'll want to just start up with 1x 4TB WD - Black Edition for storage, when that's full I want to buy 3 more of them & put them in Raid 10, would I have to format the HDD or could I plug in the 3 new HDD's & raid them 10 with the old HDD? Or would it just be ideal to save up for the other 3 HDD's & have DS raid 0 the SSD's & raid 10 the HDD's? Thanks Edited by KingHeikir - 04 Nov 2014 at 2:53pm |

If you have a single 4TB drive and decide later you want to add more drives and put them all (including the 4TB) into a raid array, yes you'll have to format the drive.
Your controller will do it automatically when you create the array. SO yes, when you create a raid array, any data on a HDD or SSD will be wiped. |
