I recently received my ODE level 3. Since it only came with 8gb of ram, I purchased 2 more sticks of 4gb ram to increase the ram to 16gb. For some reason when I insert the 2 new sticks of ram, the computer does not send a video signal to my monitor. As best I can tell I purchased the exact same ram that is currently in my system. The only difference I can see is the version numbers are different. However, same brand and size. Does anyone know why this would happen?

The sticks could be bad or their could be an issue with the MOBO. Unless you are doing something like rendering that requires lots of RAM you should not be using any more RAM anyways. All MOBOs for first and second generation i series CPUs have a known issue that affects performance when you fill up all the RAM dimms.

It is best to only use half the dimms like the ODE is set up with. It's been tested and shown that filling all the RAM slots will make the system run slower. If you are doing something rendering that's eating up all your resources anyways it's a different story but if not you will only be making things worse.

There is no game that comes close to using 8GB of RAM. I cna have a dozen things running while in game and still only hit 50% usage on my 8GB of RAM. Adding more RAM should not be necessary. Your probably better off returning the RAM.

It's just like a HDD, adding another HDD for more storage space is only useful if you need it. Adding another HDD, or switching to a bigger HDD, when that extra space will go unused will not make your system perform any better.

The most that would happen by adding more RAM is Windows would reserve a large portion of your RAM for it's self but that will not help you in any way. Windows likes to take a chunk of your RAM and reserve it for what it thinks you are going to do. But it's smart enough to release it's hold on that RAM if you run any actual programs that need it.

A 8GB of RAM is already over kill you are not likely to run out of RAM. Even a couple years from now we are unlikely to see games us up 8GB of system RAM. Keep in mind that games are also using the VRAM on your GPU too which lowers the load they put on your system RAM.
