I read on the forum that placing 12GB of RAM could overtax a motherboard. Does this apply to the X58 and or with no overclocking on the processor? I'm asking because I am thinking about picking up three more sticks for my DS.Ouch

I'd like to know the answer to this one as well, since I am planning on having 12gb in my system when I order it.

i doubt both of you will even use 12gbs
you can use 12, but it has to be slower memory, i think lower than 1866mhz
and i think it can affect your Overclock

The rig I will be getting will primarily be used for high-end video editing, including pushing a fair amount of hi-def video which is why I figured 12gb of 1600mzh ram would be best. I will be working with some rather large files, to say the least. Eventually will be getting into producing blu-ray discs for customers of their filmed events. Anyway, was going to get the stage 1 overclock, how would 12gb adversely affect the OC?

you should be fine with 12GB as far as oc goes, IMO.

That's good to know. I've been doing some research and found that many people are still getting 3.8 to 4.0ghz oc's with 12gb of 1600mhz ram. I also found a screenshot where a guy was rendering a 1080p project using AfterEffects and it was taking up all of 8gb of ram....so 6 probly will not do what I need.

Well, I'm not OCd and probably don't need all 12 but is the 1600mhz superior in the aspect of gaming to the 1333mhz stick? Does it really matter?

1333 to 1600 doesn't matter in gaming, though video editing might be a different story.

Yes 12GB puts a bigger strain on the IMC (Integrated Memory Controller) in the CPU, overclocked or not.  Overclocking increases the strain but even so the chips will last at least 7-8 years.

Stage 1 with 12GB will be fine.
