Taking a finer look at my rig specs I'd like to get input into the Memory side of things. I have the following;

i7-930 2.8 @ 3.7

Memory
RAM : 6144 MB DDR3 1600 Triple Channel
RAM Speed : 746.2 MHz (2:8) @ 11-11-11-29

is the ram speed indicated "fine" per say or could it be improved?

Thank you in advance, lots to learn Whoa

well its running close to rated speed with .. ok timings, without knowing the exact model ram your using, its hard to know for sure.

i prefer to stack speed at the expense of timings, but thats easy for me to say when my patriot is rated at 2400mhz

if what youre saying is that you want to push it higher, we can do that very easily

if what you asking is was it set ok by DSO? id need to know the actual brand and model of the ram

Oops, looks like the RAM got set back to BIOS default timings by accident. I'd go manually set them back to 9-9-9-24 in the BIOS.

To get the RAM speed either multiply the DRAM Frequency under the Memory tab of CPU-Z by 2, or multiply the Bus Speed number under the CPU tab by whatever your memory multiplier is, 8 in your case.

CPU-Z always reports Bus Speed about half a point low, so your RAM is currently running at 1496MHz and the CPU at 3.74GHz.

@!Ender_ Looking inside the case its labeled 'Performance' its one of the DSO certified ram brands.

@Dragoon are you 100% on your reply about the Ram being set back to default? I would hate to mess with the BIOS if it isn't 'needed'.

Thanks you two, Going to load up some coffee and start some tests

grr, ok well i am interested to know where dragoonseal got his information, maybe he has the same ram? i cant tell what model you have from the information you gave, so its hard to gauge what the ram is capable of ..
so how far down the rabbit hole are you willing to go here? if you want to push the ram harder, turn your computer off and pull a stick out, take a picture or write down all of the information off of the ram, there has to be a model number on there somewhere!
if not... i think that cpuid and/or Everest can id your ram to the model number, you may want to try the software approach first

there is no RAM in the world with that crappy of timings with that speed. The only way this happens is when the BIOS jockey uses the evil AUTO settings.. simple fix

I haven't touched anything inside the rig, so "as is" it was set that way by DSO? :(

@Ender_ I'll pull a stick out and relay the info shortly. Finishing the prime95 run

you don't have to pull a stick out.. lol you can pull up the info of the SPD with software. CPU tweaker, CPUz ect.. it is either 8-8-8-24  or 9-9-9-24, so it does not matter, you can set it to CAS 9 run memtest, and continue tightning. Just because it is rated at X-X-X-X values doe not mean anything really, when you are trying to custom tune the RAM.
There is some decent gains to be had till about CAS 8, then after that it is pretty minimal. going from CAS 11 to CAS 6 with 1700Mhz RAM speed in gaming I gained a pretty decent amount of FPS in the past, have to pull up the charts, but around 12%-15% better, with all else unchanged.. But it also depends on the game. lol
