I had a question on ram speed. I ordered a core i7 extreme chip to be OC'd I was told by the DS sales person that 1333mhz was good for the core i7. But I've been reading all over the place that with the core i7 you want at least 1600mhz for good performance and OCs. Is this true? What is your opinion on it. And if 1600mhz is better then 1333mhz is 1866 better then the 1600. Or would there be no noticable difference between the two. I wanna see if I can make the change to my ram now while DS is building my computer.

This confused me to after i started doing more reading. I'm hoping they let me change out my ram for no charge. With the extreme core i7 the 1866 would be better to go with then the 1600 then? Also which is the better brand platinum or Dominators? |

the 1333 is manufacturer limit for the 920 and 940 the 925 can run 2000MHz ram, you should have gone with the 1866MHz.

Hmm you are testing, if they have not begun testing then you should be good to go, if they have, see what they say, they are so nice they will probably do it for you

I hope so...Its weird they told me 1333 and 1600 don't make a difference. But after looking at the forums and reading it made me do a google search to see if that's true. But yeah they've been great so far, so I'm hoping they'll do something to set this right. So far the level of service I've gotten from them has really made me feel comfortable choosing them over the first boutique i went with which were also great, but DS just offered so much more in terms of customization which i think is where they really shine...well that plus their awesome customer service.

Well let me clear this up a bit in all fairness, if you search this forum you will find me saying that the ram speed does not make a noticeable difference, and it will not, however my comments are regarding going to the next step up, in this case you are jumping 2 steps, so there is gonna be good performance upgrade, however I'm still not sure that you will notice the difference.
but as far a 1333 vs 1600MHz, they were right you won't notice a difference, I suggested the 1866MHz cause if you going with the 965 then one of its big differences is that you can use fast ram cause only the 965 can override the integrated memory controller, so you might as well take advantage of it

1333 is better suting for high end QX series setups; i think its too low end for i7 based systems. Even so, performance gain will be minimal either way.

I also didn't know about this until I started reading memory reviews on the net. The machine I ordered aobut 2 days ago has 6 gigs of 1333 configured, and it's already at stage 5. So I'm out of the league for changing... anyways, anthing will be better than my current DDR1 Pentium4 setup!! In a couple of years or so maybe I'll need to upgrade to 12 gigs of ram, so i hope it will be a lot more cheaper!
