I was wondering if there was any difference between 12 gigs of DDR3 @ 1600 Mhz, and 6 gigs of DDR3 @ 1866 Mhz.

You will never need the 12Gigs. Thats for sure. The 1866mhz is more for speed and the 12gigs would be fore EXTREME multitasking.   Id recommend the 1866mhz.

ram size = multi tasking ability

ram speed = speed the ram works at

so the 12GB has more multi taksing abilities, however as PB pointed it out, 6GB is more then enought for most users right now.

so go with what you will use and the fastest you can get, in this case its the 6GB 1866MHz.

but get ram only if you are getting an i7 965, otherwise its kind of a waste of money.
