Hi Everyone,
I am just wondering if anyone can shed some light on RAM. First of all I just wanted to know why DS doesn't deal with Kingston RAM. Is Kingston subpar RAM? I didn't want to ask the second question because I did some research and found the answer...=o) |

well just for the heck of it, what was the second question?
Mushkin test their ram before they send it to DS so it has a less failure rate, both corsair and Mushkin have better performance/quality vs price then Kingston, I'm not sure they might even have better timings. you have to be careful, all companies have say 1600MHz ram for example of different model, so you could find 2 1600MHz ram by corsair with one having better timing then the other, right now even the corsair 2000MHz ram has 2 versions, one has better timings. in a way you could say its like what is the difference between Sony and Sonyo. I,m kinda experimenting with RAM ATM my comp killed the corsair dominator(it was 1066) in 5 months. Then I put 800MHz OCZ SLI ready and that RAM has survived( Its still good, just tryin different stuff). I tried some 1066MHz G-Skill and it lasted 2 weeks. Im now tryin the OCZ 800MHz reaper to see how that fairs, so far 2 weeks lol.

Im not sure exactly. The corsair just up and died. The replacement I put in (ocz sli ready) is still good. The Gskill was warranty replacement but it just croaked. the volts are at 1.8 I think. I just let the comp set it. I did the setts on the g-skill and I think thats what messed it up.I put them at what they were rated for. I read somewhere that the 780i doesnt really like 1066 mhz RAM. The builder said I should update my bios to the latest but Im not to comfortable with doin that. Look when I tried to set stuff on the g-skill lol. Its probably my bios.

my 780i from DS, ran corsair dom. 1066 overclocked to 1108, for nearly a year @ 2.25v and now runs mushkin 1066 @ 1090 @ 2.13v never had a problem. lol your issue seems very odd
Updating bios on a nvidia board is easy. Ram voltage should be set manually, not auto, IMHO. The timings, well that gets complicated. Edited by justin.kerr - 15 Apr 2009 at 11:30pm |

What would be the RAMifications if you didnt set the RAM to its proper speed timings? Lets say less than what they can do?
