Topic: Ram Upgrade Posted: 18 Nov 2018 at 8:23am |
Hello all, just had a question about ram. I have 2 8gb sticks of ddr4 3000mhz ram in my current pc. I want to upgrade to 32gb. I have a quad channel motherboard with only 2 slots currently in use. Am I better off trying to match with the ram I currently have and use the other slots? How close does the timing numbers have to be to have optimal performance. Sorry if this is a little confusing.

What motherboard are we discussing here?
Timing should match. It doesn't ~HAVE~ to, but the faster RAM will be running at the slower speed. (I prefer to look at crucial.com for their on site scanner here.. But that's me because I'mnot one of the the Smart Guys® that hang out here.) They will tell you what you have and what will be compatible. |

Are these 2400MHZ sticks or 3200MHZ sticks? Im confused because when I run CPU-Z it tells me the max bandwidth is 2400mhz. Also when I look up more ram it seems these timings are more in line with the 2400mhz sticks. Am I missing something. Sorry for the ignorance, im kind of new at this.

If it's important, I think there is a size limit on images here on the forum. You can load Paint and resize your picture.
