Topic: Random Issue on ShutdownPosted: 31 May 2015 at 7:34am |

I am having a seemingly random issue during computer shutdown where sometimes my backlit Logitec Gaming Keyboard remains lit after the computer has powered down. Whenever this happens, I notice the shutdown takes longer than normal (maybe an additional 15-30 seconds). Seems to me like something is hanging up in the shutdown sequence, not removing power to the USB port the keyboard is plugged into, but again, this seems completely random. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to figure out what is happening on these extended shutdowns and how to stop them from occurring? Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks. |

Hi hstormer12,
Make sure the computer is not going into sleep or standby. I would try another USB port. If you are using one in front try one in back or the other way around. Have you checked the Logitec FAQ on their site. Maybe it is a known problem. If you are using a wireless keyboard it is probably staying on to charge. I think there is a option in the Bios about USB charging. Just some thoughts, don't know what is wrong. Frank |

Thanks for the ideas, Frank.
I know the computer isn't going to sleep and I'm pretty sure BIOS settings are correct. I am wondering if it has something to do with the USB 3.0 port I'm using. I hadn't really thought about it being a keyboard issue, so I'll have to check into that as well. I was hoping there was some way to view all the computer shutdown processes after the fact (on the next startup) so I could compare a good shutdown to one that had the issue. Thanks again. |

Hi hstormer12..... You can use Task manager to check the Processes being used and their impact on the cpu.
You can also type..msconfig...in Start, click it and then use the Startup tab to see all that is started. Disabling them one at a time or just comparing them can take time. And under Boot tab, select the Boot log to log in all processors on boot. OS Boot info being checked might also help. Use the Help button to get the location of the saved boot info. It's been awhile since I used it and am a bit fuzzy on it. ![]() |

Hi hstormer12,
Do you have a Gigabyte motherboard? It isn't about the Bios settings being correct. Some motherboards are setup to charge USB devices when the computer is shut down. You may have the option in your Bios set to on for this option. Your keyboard probably doesn't have any batteries to charge and this might have something to do with your problem. If you shut off the power to the USB port your lights won't come on after power down. Frank Edited by FrankW - 01 Jun 2015 at 9:08am |
