I've been dealing with this issue for almost 3 years now. When gaming or
using 3d design software, my computer will randomly reset, black screen
and beep on restart. In the past I have run hardware tests on all
components and reseated everything multiple times. Heat cannot be the
issue, I've watched temps and computer is in a cooled room with no side
panels, 7 120mm fans and box fan blowing directly on it. I keep computer
clean from viruses etc and update drivers when needed. It's not dusty
and I've even checked surge protector and outlets so that I have a
direct outlet that nothing else is running on.
Sometimes it will run stable for a few weeks then have days where it resets up to 6-8 times a day. Bios are set to default and no GPU oc. I don't run anything to intense. I play starcraft 2, day of defeat source and blackops etc on lower settings. Some games like blackops won't run for more than 10mins without reseting the computer. I am also getting Kernel-Power errors in event viewer. I've tried smaller tweaks to ram settings and CCC like 16bit/32bit etc with no changes. I've read a lot of forums and tried everything, from what I've been reading here is that it maybe my PSU? I have an Ultra 1k watt with an Ultra PSU tester. I spent a lot of $ on this computer at the time, it still works great for what I need it for except for this major issue. I have browsed through all of your support guides, 95% I have done multiple times. Would love to get some expert advice. Thanks for your time! well its either your drivers, the gpu or the psu, those are my suspects, that is assuming ram and etc have been checked and are fine.

I have just updated my drivers, also run spybot and ccleaner weekly, just ran them. I have an ultra psu tester that shows all green lights. Anything specific I can do to check the psu?
My gpu is fairly new, radeon 5770 with no overclocks, however I use msi afterburner for fan tuning. But it has reset with and without it running before. The psu and gpu are warm to the touch sometimes, but temps never get critical when monitoring them during gaming. Edited by Nano - 09 Sep 2011 at 7:12pm |

what are your psu temps? what psu do you have?
looking at that tester, there a few reviews that say this tester passed their psu even tho it was not working, one tester said out of 20 psus, it passed all but 3 of those were bad and should not have passed, just fyi. Edited by DST4ME - 09 Sep 2011 at 6:24pm |

Sounds like power supply may be the issue.

It has a lifetime warranty, to bad I bought in back in 08' and didn't register it. Learned my lesson.
What psu would you recommend? Maybe a corsair 800 watt? Could just run up to best buy and see what happens. |

Sure! You might even be able to return it if it doesn't help?
Corsair's Enthusiast and Professional line are really good: http://www.corsair.com/power-supply-units.html Even the Gaming series isn't bad, we use that for our systems and have had zero issues with them.

For psu I only recommend hx and ax series from corsair, they have a 7 year warranty which is the longest they have and they are great psus, they just came out with the 1050hx, if you want to have sli option that is a great psu, if not for single gpu system the 750hx is great, the 850hx can do sli 580 also.

So I started following DS guides.
Ccleaner - Ran multiple times + registry until clean. Rebooted and ran again. Spybot - Full scan and scan before logging into windows, nothing found. GPU drivers fully updated and installed correctly. HD tune pro - No red blocks. The resets are less then they have been, but I'm still hearing a clicking / stressed noise either coming from the HD or PSU. Leaning more towards the HD. The computer isn't under heavy load, I'm playing day of defeat source an older game with a config that lowers graphics, runs @ 130 constant fps. With or without config it still resets, same goes for blackops and other fps games I have. Someone online mentioned it could be due to 3d clocks? Going to run some ram tests tonight. CPU-Z Screens ![]() ![]() ![]() Real Temp Screens - Idle, Manual Fans ![]() Should I set my ram timings or leave bios @ default when trying troubleshoot this issue? Anything in the bios I can set? Thanks again! Edited by Nano - 12 Sep 2011 at 6:37pm |

Ccleaner will not have anything to do with your problem, spybot is pointless as it will not catch everything, if you want to make sure your pc is clean you need an upto date good av like eset and anti spyware like spysweeper or Malwarebytes. but again they will not have anything to do with it either.
if your hdd is making noises, then its on its way out, back it up and replace it. your temp and cpu settings were done when the pc is ide, which does not tell us anything, put pc under load then lets see temps and oc and vcore and etc. Edited by DST4ME - 12 Sep 2011 at 7:16pm |
