I want to get a 1tb drive and then either get a ssd or a raptor. the ssd's are way expensive. I'm sorry but every time I look, I just keep shaking my head saying I need at least a 160gb drive. That makes the ssd's expensive and the raptor cheap. Although my understanding is the raptors are nice, they aren't the best... typically though I play mmo's
sc2 will be trying rift will be trying star wars as well total war series pirates of the burning sea. |

Your post makes it out like your mind is made up already, so I'm not sure why you're even asking. 160GB SSD is going to be extremely pricey as you already know.
SSD is much better than any hard disk; period. If you want to save money, then wait for the new Intel SSD. If you don't want to wait, stop and think if you really really need 160GB. Is their anything you can cut? Only the OS, and favorite/most played games and apps should be on the SSD. Not movies or other data Edited by dodgers2213 - 30 Jan 2011 at 2:32pm |

My velociraptor allows me to achieve a nice ~25 second login screen time, a few seconds more and i'm fully operational. ~35 second bootup, which is nice.

see I guess my issue right now..is I have slow load times...I'm always the last one to load... its annoying. Maybe a SSD is an overreaction. A raptor has 300 vs 160 or a 128.

I have veloci and ssd, there is no comparison, the ssd eats the veloci for lunch.
ssd will load everything faster, when the game is loading and you have to wait for that bar, with a ssd that goes much faster. |

so what is the point to the raptor drive? Isn't it suppose to be a reasonable improvement over your typical 1TB drive?

SSD > Velociraptor for sure. If you still want a tradeoff, you can consider the Veloci, but really, IMO I'd recommend the Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid Drive instead. Hear good things about that drive.

I just want something thats reasonably cost effective. 300.00 (might even be low) for a 160 drive isn't cost effective. however a raptor is cost effective for a 300gig.
I just want to have a reasonable load time, not get stuck on load screens as often, and not the last one loading all the time.

Cost effective they are not yet, however ssd is so much faster in everything then the veloci, but I'm talking about the 600GB, the smaller ones are even slower.
