there is a lot wrong with your build... answer these ? so we can better help you

do you plan on possibly going higher in resolution?
budget?
what multimedia do you plan to do? if video 2d or 3d?
will you be gaming as well? if so what games?

when we have the answers we will configure a system for you. a lot of options you chose are a waste of money and we can put that into other things to make it better.
2.5 Ghz Core duo
Nvidia 9500 gt
3 gb 1033 Mhz ram

if we can't answer a question shoot a e-mail here.

Thanks for the feedback.

Lets see...

do you plan on possibly going higher in resolution?
budget? Yes. 1680x1050 and beyond.

what multimedia do you plan to do? if video 2d or 3d? I want to be able to make and edit movies and game videos. Fraps, Dazzle, etc.

will you be gaming as well? if so what games? Dragon Age, Crysis, Modern Warfare 2, and any new release that needs a heavy system.

Thank you again.

I removed the stuff that didn't make a difference and replaced them with things that do make a difference.

feel free to drop the ssd if you like

HDD1 = os/apps/games

HDD2 = media/personal/work file storage

Don't fill up your HDD1 more then 50%, if think you will need more room for it then pick a bigger one, or just let me know and we can figure out a different setup for HDD to keep in budget.

ShockedGreetings...and a few questions.

I have been studying the forums and in particular your advice on configuration. Many times when you pare away the "stuff that doesn't matter and add the stuff that does"(paraphrase) you don't include the original build's BluRay player.

My question: Is this just an oversight or do you feel that a stand alone BluRay player is a better idea? Does the unit offered by DS not hold up in quality/performance/longevity compared to say, a Samsung stand-alone unit?

I think many people, including myself, want to use their PC as a central engine in their entertainment hardware. DVD, BluRay,streaming video, MP3, etc. are being used through the PC with a receiver/amplifier/speaker or home theatre sound system for the audio.

I realize most, but not all, of the DS customers are probably hard-core gamers and your builds are spot on for them. I mean no disrespect but the noticed omissions made me curious.Confused

the BD player is fine,
Just not alot of them see it as a useful thing, unless you mention you want it as a BD player as well.
HTPC is great, but it is different config than pc game/work.
I have 1 HTPC and currently working on a 2nd for my living room.
the type of apps and etc you have to run/tweak to have the apps running correctly is another field. it's not as simple as in just plug a working gaming rig to your tv and expect it to run flawlessly as a htpc. some what calibration is needed so the quality outputs better, and then tweak the apps so it runs like a normal home theater solution.

this is why i own 3 pc's working on 4th and will buy 5th from DS

Lot of people tend to just add stuff without thinking, so I have a habit of dropping the bd and those that really need it will ask for it or add it back in, sometimes I just forget to add it in.

Thanks for the tweaking. The changes I noticed were the removal of my tube coloring, blue ray player, and the red tube coloring for flash :)

Question: Is the SSD worth the added expense and why the ATI Radeon 5870 vs the nvidia 285 2gb i had in there? Thanks DST4M3

your config that you had didn't have no liquid cooling so there was no tube color or tube to pic.

ssd is great if you can afford it, much faster boot times and etc.

the 5870 supports dx11 so it does better then the 285 in dx10 and dx11 games and future games, so even tho I love nvidia, ati has the best cards for your money right now.
