Okay....I think I am ready to place my order.  Thanks to the forum...I have changed my mind about 1,000,000 times....and that is a good thing.

I almost bought a rig from Costco because it seemed like a good deal....it is on sale for $1999 and it is:

iBUYPOWER Gamer 925QL
Q6600 2.4 Quad Core
ASUS P5N32-E SLI Mainboard
  • 500GB (7,200 RPM) SATA 3Gb/s Hard Drive
  • 20x max DVD±RW drive with Double Layer Support
  • 16x max DVD-ROM drive
  • 768MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800GTX graphics card

  • 2 x Gigabit Ethernet LAN
  • 802.11g Wireless Network Card
  • SupremeFX Audio Card
  • Microsoft Windows Vista™ Ultimate (32-bit)
  • 800-watt power supply

Black Thermaltake Armor Jr. gaming tower

It seems like a good deal for the money but the things that I have read about IBUYPOWER make me to nervous.

SO  I dont think I can afford the same build from DS at 2K but this is my thought to go with a comappny that I KNOW stands behind their prodcuts from everything I have heard:

    DS Twister Lite
    620 Corsair HX
    Q6600 2.4 OC'd (I assume to close to 3.0)
2 gig Corsair XMS2  (Probably will max to 3 gig for 32bit OS)
    Digital Media Card reader
    320 Gig HD
    DVD RW 20/48
    DVD ROM 16/40
    Onboard Network
    Onboard Sound
Air Cooled Stage 2 (Cover the OCing on the processor)
    Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit

I play mostly RPG's (The Witcher, NWN2, etc) and MMORG's (WOW, LOTRo and of course....Age of Conan...cant wait)
I do some video editing and DVD burning along with some multitaksing withMS office for Work.
Dont care about SLI in that this is a 3 year rig before I buy a new one with the triple quad core and DX 16 and Nvidea 2Gig 9900 GXTCRL OC'd.......LOL  Gotta love technology!)
I need to stay at or under 2K.  (Living in Washington is going to add about $175 bucks for sales tax....SUCKS!)

Looking for affirmation on build so I can order sooner than later.  Thanks ahead for any help and wisdom.

Would love feedback on this build.

You left off the videocard you were going with in your build... I'm going to assume 8800 Ultra?

Sorry Akkim, we would not ship  a  lite case with an Ultra.
THis would probably be the 8800GT or GTS.

    Now, What motherboard?

    Sorry.....my bad....

I was looking at the 8800GT 512.....i know anything in the GTX group woudl be to hot for the lite case......

And the 6501 mobo.......since SLI is not a concern

Everything I have read here and at Tom's seem to indicate that the GT is a better bang for your buck to the GTS 512/640/320 and rivals teh GTX in overall performance to dollar.

I would love the GTX in a perfect world, hence the reason I looked at the Costco computer in that it had the GTX included along with liquid cooling, decent board (Asus) and maximised quality ram for a 32 bit set-up.  Of course, what good is it if it has nothing but problems all the time though...........

At least if I go with the OC on the 6600, I know it is being done by proffessionals and that is probably worth sacrifcing the GTX for to the GT in keeping the system under 2K.

Is there any changes that anyone would make to this build?

I have had little/no issues running the RPGs you've mentioned (Witcher, WoW) on an 8800 GT/512MB 350mhz (?) edition with a far inferior system.

I've seen 100-120fps in "stale" moments in WoW.. in deep raids I'm still around 15-25fps (but that's running 2560x1600 on a 30" LCD)... so I imagine your performance should be fine!

great option right there, if you went with this rig you could save a few bucks by only going with one optical drive.

    Nvidia 8800GT
    Asus Maximus Formula Mobo

Using Sky's config as a start.

Since you will be doing Video Editing you might want to add a second 320 GB HD in Raid 0 to increase the read and write speed and provide more space.  And add the multi card reader will still keep it just over $1900.

Also, as long as you are not in California you should not have to pay Sales Tax.
    850W PSU/Pro Case
    Q6600-G0 2.7GHz
    nVidia 680i A1 Revision
    4GB 800MHz XMS2
    1x500 GB WD, 2x500GB WD RAID-1
    2x500GB Ext
    nVidia GeForce 8800GTX 768MB
    ATI TV Wonder 650
    Air Cooled Stage 3
