Unless you plan to tri sli those 280 GTXs youd be able to get away with a 1000W Corsair Power supply. But i assume you selected that PS for its quality as its a great one =P

I don't understand why would anyone pay more for Vista Ultimate. You are just getting extra bloat. AFAIK, Home Premium has everything you need to browse the net, play games, connect to networks, etc.

Vista Ultimate key features not included with premium:
Windows Complete PC Backup and RestoreAvailable in Windows Vista Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise editions, Windows Complete PC Backup and Restore is a comprehensive, image-based backup tool that will help you out of a tight spot if you need to recover your entire system. Also: Windows fax and Scan, Remote Desktop, and Bitlocker Drive Encryption.I included Microsoft's complete description of their image based backup feature included with Ultimate for those not familiar with the differences between that and a system restore point. I paid about $40 for Acronis True Image which does the same thing and have seen a price of about $60 for Norton's Ghost, so I would call that a ~$50 value.
If the Remote Desktop is worthwhile for you, or you store information you would prefer be encrypted (perhaps you work at home or have a need to access company resources from a home office), Vista Ultimate may very well be perfectly tailored to your needs and preferable to the Home version.

Yes, I tried using Seagate's and it was just aweful. There were so many limitations on how it could be used, it made it worth the $40 for Acronis just to never look at that UI again.
I plan on an upgrade to Ultimate soon myself. I'll find out at that point if the image restore feature is worthwhile, or worthless. Edited by Tyler Lowe - 02 Aug 2008 at 2:02am |

Dunno.. Think OC CPU would add mcuh here without risking stabilty? Do you have to redo the OC after adding extras like swapping out audio or video cards? |

I went back and forth on this between Premium and Ultimate. I was told about the imaging on this forum. Also, I think Windows Remote Connection might be usefull. You can use Go To My PC, but there is a monthly charge. I want to use an office PC from home. |

I think you may have convinced me. wrt to the rig, I have a new job, new place to live, so I'm rewarding myself with a new computer to replace my 5 year old Falcon NW. |

Now I'm having second thoughts about the audio card. I've used Creative for years. Maybe try the Razer Barracuda for a change. I think it has an optical output on the back, that the XFi XPS doesn't.

With the creative card, the extra money you pay mainly goes toward the card's ability to operate without putting additional load on your cpu, thus enhancing your fps in demanding gameplay. Best case advantange I've heard of was up to 10% performance, but that sounds a bit high and statistics can be manipulated to tell someone anything. Still, the advantage is there and it's obvious, just not that high.
What this means to you is that if you have framerate issues in a game, this could be the performance edge to eliminate game lag. I personally am not big on using xfi to enhance performance. To me it's not cost effective, but that's a case of personal preference. |

I would say if you like Bioshock, you need to try Mass Effect also, another cool action RPG, really nice.
Just started playing this one, and it looks tremendous on my PC :) Dave |
