Now the CD RW isn't working. I have a disc in there but my computer doesn't see it and can't copy any music with it.  What is wrong with this thing? Why doesn't it just WORK?

Check the cables and make sure there properly connected, its possible you have a bad drive. I just got done replacing my cdrw, windows/bios wouldn't detect it and It would not open and close properly.

if you don't see the dvd drive in the device manager or if you right click my computer>manage>disk management> and don't see it here either then its your cables or the device itself, if you do see it in one of those places then its not the cable or device, its something else.

It may not be the computer itself, but other factors:

1. I noticed you said it's an Audio CD. Have you tried a DATA disc? It may be a DRM copy protection scheme?

If not, shut-down your computer, unplug it for 30 seconds, and then try a different disc?

It could also be a program that locked the drive...

Great point Alex, is it that your PC won't see the CD or the DVD/CD drive itself?

My cable was loose. I was working inside the computer with Randy awhile ago. I must have knocked it. Sorry. My fault. Big%20smile

All that is important is that the problem is solved and you can get back to your PC

No, actually, it's still not seeing the cd. Why won't it just copy the music onto the cd? It did before I had to reinstall my Windows. What do you think is going on? Do I need to download something?

Before I use to just open up the Windows Media Player, make my playlist and then I'd just hit "copy to cd" and it did it. Now it's not seeing the cd in the tray.

was it this exact CD that you copied before?

what DVD/CD copying/writing app do you have?

if its a protected CD you won't be able to copy it.

you could rip and then burn it possibly
