I really need your help, I’m looking to put together a PC & order in the next day or so that’s going to have to last a while it could be used for light gaming maybe Flights sims, also sorting out my VHS tapes & maybe some HT duty as well I’m trying to keep the $ around $12-$1300 or so, my thoughts are I should start w/ a good case & PS (750W?) & a good mobo to grow into later w/ a TV cap/card, maybe a 2nd Vid card down the line bigger HD Etc, I’m in AZ so heat is a concern as is power usage, I was thinking of building upon a CM Scout or Sniper case , do they come w/ fans? & what about cpu cooling?, also a 4 or 6X AMD cpu but what MoBo? a 890 or 790 chipset? & about vid card as much as I’d like a 5850 I may have to take a GT240 or 250, my brother has a 5850 & loves it but as far as the video card goes I’m really open to ideas as I’m not up on them, Cheers , |

maybe save just a little more because with another 200 bucks you could get a lot more power under the hood

yes but as long as we are talking stage 3 LC and above.
yes with haf, sniper, and cases like them, fan upgrade is not needed, also they are loud.
they just disable some services, it makes no difference what so ever to apps or games. Edited by DST4ME - 07 Jul 2010 at 7:04pm |

Thanks guys for your input I’m still deciding between a AMD Hex & a Intel CPU, as I said I’m trying to start w/ a good cast psu cpu & mobo that will have some legs, these are items I don’t feel comfortable messing w/ on my own adding a updated burner & maybe video card (& I can’t see myself ever adding more then 2 cards) or HD I should be able to handle, I’m thinking of scaling back on the GPU from the 5850 to hold down the cost going w/ a GTX 460 for the time being as far as my choice for the mobo & cooling fan I’m open to ideas ALSO power usage ($$$) & heat are a major concern , Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Cooler Master CM Storm Sniper $1586.00 My AMD build Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Cooler Master CM Storm Sniper $1574.00 one other build Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Cooler Master CM Storm Sniper |

dont mean to throw a wrench in your progress here, im glad to see that you came up to 1500, you will be much happier with your purchase. however i want you to consider this
its $50 more and all you give up is insignificant in gaming
you go from 6gb ram to 4 (wont affect games)
you go from platform 1366 to 1156 (wont affect games)
you go up about 20% or more video power, obviously, this will very much affect games. video is in fact the bottleneck and foundation of pretty much every game
thats what i would do anyway, you wont even see a change in your computer use by dropping the ram and the platform.
if you are worried about going over 1600, id change the case to a haf 922, which i think is better personally, but that is not much of a change, more a way to save the last little bit of money Edited by !ender_ - 15 Jul 2010 at 6:00pm |

Thank you for the input it’s very much appreciated, I had looked at & was very impressed by the 860 in checking around the net I really liked what I saw RE: the 860 the reason I was going for the 930 was I thought the chipset & boards would be better in the long run as for the GTX 460 it was recommended by a tech from DS who called me back the other day my concern was over power usage & to a lesser extent heat, I may still just use a 5770 or 5850 & see what the future brings I’m of the mind that I’d rather use one good card then two lesser cards, with the 860 is one mobo better then the other?, Cheers, |

maybe in synthetic tests and on paper
ive yet to see anything that makes me think that in real life practice that its worth the extra $100 to go to 1366, especially on a budget under or near 2k
let alone the fact that the capabilities of the 860 and 4gbs of dual channel are already more than a game will use
i see this so often, but im SO perplexed by this, plenty of "reputable" sources swear up and down that the 470 is so hot, but i own this card, and through testing it and playing crysis on it, i havent seen it get over 90c OR heard it at all (granted i wear headphones, but who doesnt)
again synthetics, the only time i have heard the card is when i ramp it up for benchmarks
as far as the mobos, im partial to asus boards, but i am not qualified to tell you what the best motherboard is, i rarely look at the specs on them |
