Hi,

I REALLY need to back up my computer. I used to use a product called Drive7 but it no longer works thanks to an XP update. Thanks Bill! Angry

Drive7 WAS bought by Norton but the current version of Ghost in no way resembles Drive7 at all. I tried a demo of Ghost 12.0 and it is a complete peice of crap. The interface was confusing and I had no idea if it was going to back up my entire system or just the things it thought i should back up.

So, can anyone recommend good back up software? I want to make images of the system to save to my external HD and not just individual files ala Norton.

Thanks!

I have used True Image (Acronis) for a couple of years.  The reason I got it was I was tired of reloading the O.S. after installing a lot of software and then one would sitick it to me. I find it great for backing up the O.S. drive before driver updates, etc. It's saved my butt many time (I like to play around on the system). It has a neat feature that allows you to open a drive image as if it were another hard drive to let you extract files.

I have used Drive Image and Ghost, but I this one has worked well for me.

Acronis True Image is a "must have" piece of software. It will back up files, but more importantly it can create restorable copies of your a disk drive, including your boot drive. Restore one of these copies to new or wiped disk and in one fairly quick operation you've got a working Windows system again. One of these full disk copies also give you the option to restore just the specific directories you choose.

XP Pro actually comes with a backup progam that I believe can do the same thing. I think it's called "ntbackup" or something like that. The documentation is so bad that I could never decide what it was really capable of. The problem with backup progams (DSO's Recovery Disks included) is that there is no good way to test them. The recovery process destroys you existing software system.

True Image has worked flawlessly for me.  StarStarStarStarStar

Yeah, I would also agree with using Acronis.  I have used it a few times and it works great! :)

Cool, thanks everyone. I have a demo of it and will be trying it soon! It looks like it might do the trick.
