Anybody playing anything they really love? I am anxiously awaiting my PC (stage 3) and am filling the time by coming up with a list of what I want to play. I am coming back to PC gaming after a loooong break during which I was console gaming (Xbox).
Thanks! |

Completely depends on what you are into... personally, I am currently in a 4X mood with a lot of Civ6, do some space exploring with Elite:Dangerous, get my funky auto fix (racing and demolition) either Rocket League or Wreckfest, my need to run a railroad with Railway Express, or to blow up WW2 armor with Armored Warfare. However, no list would be complete without the following:
Fallout 4 Skyrim The Witcher III / The Wild Hunt Red Dead Redemption 2 Middle Earth, Shadow of Morder & Shadow of War I don't do "Twitch" FPS as I am not a fan of PVP, but there are lots to choose from that the great people around here can attest. These are just my recent faves... YMMV! Happy Gaming!! |

Thanks! I played through Witcher 3 and RDR2 on my console so I am good there. I have been looking at switching it up and going for either an RPG, Civ, AoE or maybe one of the 4x space themed games I saw on Steam (Stellaris or maybe Ark). The last PC game I got into was Kerbal Space Program, but I don't want to pick that up again just yet.
Kinda feel like I should find something that actually NEEDS the hardware though instead of throwing something old at it that I could run now. Edited by ealderson - 04 Mar 2021 at 11:39am |

The Outer Worlds.
The Middle Earth games Snaike cited are unique and engaging RPGs. Everyone should have a go at Fallout 4. For strategy, I've played Civ from 1990. There are some very challenging games in the the Total War Series. Three kingdoms is one of the latest. Metro Exodus will challenge your hardware. Halo: Master Chief Collection. I would definitely look forward to the Mass Effect Legendary Collection. IMHO, the greatest space-based party RPG of all time remastered for the latest hardware. Coming in may, I think. |

One of the first things I downloaded wasn't a game, or even a real application, it was a benchmark program. (Think it was Heaven or something like that.)
I ran it just to see what the GPU was capable of and where the temps would run under heavy load. I have to admit that I ran it even after I got the information I needed on the temps just to see the graphics roll by in their highest resolution. Edited by Snaike - 05 Mar 2021 at 2:44pm |

DS has been busy...up to stage 7 as of today! I'm going to have to make some gaming decisions sooner than I thought.

Join the Epic Games website, They throw out a free game every Thursday and some of them are real keepers! Also, Origin Games offers two levels of subscription that gives you unlimited access to two levels of popular games. There are some very attractive titles there as well. Speedy downloads. I have too heavy a backlog of games I've paid for to subscribe, but it entices me every time. |

I've been playing Outer Wilds and think I am about finished with it (kinda hard to tell). I'll check out Valheim as a possible second game, but am also looking at Dying Light 2 (played the first one on console), Mass Effect Legendary Edition and Subnautica. I might need something less, uh, cerebral after Outer Wilds though. Little Nightmares II also looks oddly intriguing to me as well.

This brings up a question that I was actually looking for an answer to. This is my first real gaming computer with a higher end set up. I hear people talk about looking at there frame rate and temperature while gaming. Is "Haven" or a "BENCHMARK PROGRM" what I need to down load to keep an eye these things? How important is it to monitor. The last game on PC I played was EverQuest and I stopped back in 2001 so much has changed in 20 years. |

No, it's not. For the average gamer on a Digital Storm machine that just wants to "plug and play" it is neither required or necessary. Some folks like to test the limits of their machine, others not so much. A simple temperature monitoring program like HWMonitor, Speccy, RealTemp, etc would be a good idea if you're concerned about pushing your machine too hard. |

Many games now have an applet in the "Options" section on the loading screens that can give you framerates while you game.

And some games even have their own "Benchmark" test.

I feel as if I must post a retraction, or at the least, an awakening. As I posted above I am very leery of Early Access games, especially by small studios with no track record to speak of, with no firm release dates. I swore off of them forever after getting burned a couple of times.. but then...
After a conversation with 2 friends and my own son I decided to take a closer look at Valheim. Two facts sold the game for me. 1) 3rd highest total of players concurrently on Steam (behind COD and DOTA) and 2) this little factoid below. 190k+ Overwhelmingly Positive reviews in just the 2 months it's been out. Think they've got a winner. Edited by Snaike - 12 Apr 2021 at 12:51pm |
