Don't know anything about which ones to use...never had anything worth benchmarking till now. I guess I'd like to see how well the cpu and gpu's and memory are holding up under a load after intense gaming. I'd like to check on temps on the cpu and video cards. And I'd like to confirm the voltage on that v-chip.

for temps use realtemp http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/7/28/2024082/RealTempBeta%203.38.zip GPU-z for graphics temps http://de1-dl.techpowerup.com/SysInfo/GPU-Z/GPU-Z.0.3.6.exe for voltages the only way to get an accurate reading is with a digital volt meter.for graphics bench these are good.
you can download them here http://www.futuremark.com/products/
use Vantage, 3dmark 06, 3d mark 05, 3d mark 03
PC mark Vantage and PCmark 05 are very good for over all system performance
there are so so many more, a lot of people get into the PI calcs, I can help there if you are interested. they bench CPU speed and Memory speed together.
There are also a lot of game benchmarks that can be a great way of testing performance.
some use Furmark to stress the graphics cards. http://194.71.11.69/pub/games/PC/guru3d/generic/FurMark_v1.7.0-%5BGuru3D.com%5D.exe
there are also a ton of hard drive benchmarks
