Topic: Recommended Gaming PC Posted: 02 Aug 2013 at 8:52pm |
Hello,
I recently just found out about Digital Storm today while talking to my friend because my current PC is about to croak. Currently I am interested in buying a Vanquish gaming PC but I am not sure which level to go for. The only main game I will be playing is Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. As long as I can play that game smoothly with little to no lag/frame rate drop then I am good. Any tips, help would be deeply appreciated! Thanks in advance! |

Depends on your budget. Most of us here on the forums would recommend the Level 3 for longevity (i5 CPU & GTX 760) but if your budget is under $1k, there's nothing wrong with Level 1 or 2. If you've got the budget, Level 4 is the best option when looking at the VANQUISH lineup.

Thanks for the reply! Level 3 doesn't seem bad at all. That is well in my budget range, Level 4 is a bit too much for me though, lol. Also taking a closer look at the specs, I do hope it'll run the game well. It's a MMO with intense graphics.

You should be more than fine with the GTX 760...

Awesome! I am kind of on the fence about buying the Level 3 because Square Enix has not officially released the system requirements yet.

Most minium requirements for the game are for the average people. Im actually quite sure no game has yet to require a gtx 760 or above.
Even with battlefield 3, Yes it would be "idea" to have a better one, But a gtx 760 on medium setting will give you good gameplay. With your games you should max it out without a problem! |

Sorry for another bump. I just have a few questions, I am still learning about tweaking and cleaning desktops so please cut me some slack, hahah.
1. How often should I open up the case and clean out any dust, etc? 2. What would be recommended to clean out the desktop? 3. I have heard people say that to keep your PC from overheating, you should frequently clean out the heatsink and reapply thermal paste. Is this true? |

1. Depending on your environment, every month to every couple of months.
2. Compressed air or an Electric Data Duster (like this one from METRO) 3. Good thermal paste (ceramic) usually stays conductive for a fairly long time so you shouldn't have to redo it if it's done right the first time. The only dumb questions are those not asked... |

I just got the Stage 7 email! Super hyped now lol, but something stood out for me. I thought the pre built vanquish desktops were not overclocked In the email it said the following for my level 3:
Overclocked Processor Settings Processor Speed GHz: 3.20 |

The 3.2 is the base clock for your processor. Probably just an auto update.

I hope so. I would be shocked if the processor is only 3.2GHz AFTER being overclocked.

Just a quick update that the vanquish has been sent and has been in "in transit" status on the FedEx page since the 9th of August.

Got it today! Thanks, I've set it all up and what not but I noticed that while gaming, the monitor screen would produce slight waves horizontally that goes upwards. Is it my graphics card?
Another minor issue I noticed was that every other time or so, when I get to the Welcome screen (in Windows 7) the familiar tune would not alway play, it doesn't really effect anything just irks me a bit, hahah. Edited by BBoySynk - 15 Aug 2013 at 5:43pm |

That wave your referring to is most likely your graphics card pushing more frames than your monitor can catch up with. If you enable VSYNC in your game visual settings, that should fix this issue. It's also called "tearing" in the gaming world.
It could be a utility that stops it sometimes. I'm not 100% but feel free to contact us and we can help you with this. Glad to hear you're enjoying your system! |

Thanks for the help, Alex! I'll see if that is the case in the morning. I just looked up what this "tearing" was and saw an image of it, my situation is similiar but different at the same time.
It is very very faint, and instead of a few lines, there would be constant waves moving vertically upwards. It really is hard to explain exactly how they look like and when I try to printscreen, it barely shows it. |

Update: Enabled VSync and tested out the games and the waves are still occurring. It looks more like there is a slight interference.

Are the bars green or something? If you have SLI, that might be the SLI scaling being shown which is actually a mode to show you how much of each graphic card is being used.
If it is that, you can disable it in the NVIDIA control panel. It looks like this: |

They are not green, no. They aren't bars either. I'm trying to screenshot the waves but you can not even see them unless its in person.
Faint transparent wave lines are horizontal that move vertically upwards are the best way I can explain it. I had the same problem with Grid 2 so I turned on VSync and it helped. For the other games not so much. I usually play on Windowed mode and some games only allow VSync in fullscreen. EDIT: My monitor is probably 3 years old. Would buying a new monitor fix this issue? Not sure what monitor you have, but I would try a different monitor cable, they can go bad and leak signal, or see if the monitor allows you to adjust refresh rate. Most are set at 60Hz but raising it might help. Either the monitor's adjustment or within Nvidia Control panel.
If you're using a high res monitor, like 2560x 1440 , use a dual link DVI cable, assuming your monitor can use it. Good luck. |

My apologies for all of this, but the problem still remains.
The Monitor I use is a 2-3 Year old eMachine E182H 60 Hertz. Pretty old from what my friend tells me because I have to use the converter or whatever it is called to be able to plug my monitor in. Could it be that the Graphics card I have now is brand new and my monitor is weak? My previous PC used the AMD Phenom II X4 965 with AMD Radeon HD 6900. I never encountered this problem before up until now. |

I would think that monitor would work. Not great image for such a great DS rig, but still work.
Vsync is the usual fix to match the video card to monitor. Is there another monitor you can try? Might be time, if budget allows, to spend a couple of hundred $$, give or take, to get 23" monitor at 1920x 1080 resolution. Great gaming. I wish I had more for you to check but thats it. |

I actually don't have another Monitor to test this out... the tearings aren't a big bother it's just a little annoying that I can't fix it that's all.
I've read on other forums with mixed results. Some people say that new monitors with 120 Hertz would fix the tearing issue while others say it still occurs but not frequently. I really appreciate all the help I get from you guys, much respect to you all. My theory still thinks that the graphics card is too powerful for the monitor, I can be wrong though. Still a greenhorn with all this tech stuff, hahah. Edited by BBoySynk - 16 Aug 2013 at 3:26pm |

Hello again, thanks yet once again for the help Alex! I think I may have found the problem but if it persists I will contact for assistance!
My buddy told me that it could be the Monitor giving me the problem. Since it is only 60 Hz, and my FPS is now going over 60, that could be the reason I'm getting this tearing related phenomenon. I guess the GTX 760 is stronger and more powerful than my previous AMD Radeon HD 6900? |

No problem. If you enable VSYC it will lock the graphics card not to go higher than 60 FPS. Contact us if you need to so the team can help you figure out what is wrong.
