Recommended .MTS convertion software

Hey all,

As I am nearing the time that the new computer gets here and finally having the power to convert videos and the like I thought I would ask this question...

What is the best software that you have used to convert HD MTS files (from my Canon HF20) to a useable format on the computer to upload (mpeg, avi or the like)?

I have used Aiseesoft MTS converter trial version and it seems ok but jsut wanted to know if anyone does this regularly and has good software. I do not mind on cost (within reason)

Any help would be much appreciated!

I can actually record it in other formats but MTS is the highest quality (sort of like RAW format on new digital SLR cameras... I am going to get a player that plays the MTS files but wanted something to convert others so I can put them on the net/blog/email etc as we live int he US right now and have a 6 week old; grandparents want to see as much of him as they can!

I agree that MTS is pretty unuseable however being a newer file type there are not that many players and you need a lot of pc power to run them without them skipping all over the place. Guess my original question is that there are tons of conversion softwares out there but just which one others have used and are happy with... The last thing I want is crap software!
