Should a customer (me) register components with the manufacturers? For example the GPU or motherboard if I have model numbers and serial numbers from either finding them on attached stickers or reported inside of software diagnostic software?

Sometimes I do that in life, and sometimes I don't. Since I have DS lifetime support, the only thing I registered is I let Nvidia know I had their card so I would get heads-ups on driver updates. They had me "join", and now I have an interface that makes driver updates a breeze. They also have an app that gives you an overlay if you want to check fps in game. They call that the "G Force In-game Overlay". I haven't used it yet.
It might be a good idea to register your proc so Intel could alert you if there was anything. I don't remember if I did that. |

Hi Cretae, I did as suggested and the Intel checker said that I had one piece of out=of-date software, the "Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) User Interface and Driver for Intel® 7th Gen and Later Platform." It wasn't in the category of ones they said had to be changed now. Normally, other than video cards, I haven't been one to update drivers too often (if at all). The same goes for my prior Z97 BIOS, which ASUS started to not update at all of the Spectre/Meltdown thing. So, what is your best advice to me? TIA. |

I'm from the school of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I'd advise you to find out what that is, and if it seems of concern, ask a DS tech. From what I see, I'd blow it off. Take your own look, but it "enhances" SATA drive function in Windows, and it seems it's really hard to remove.
