It looks like NVIDIA is no longer branding the Maxwell cards 880 and 870 and are now branding them as 980 and 970. Also, it looks like the announcement of these cards is September 9th or 10th with the release being September 19th.

Oops, missed the post and made another in the General Discussion forums. Exciting stuff. How would they be releasing a card cheaper than a 780? I wonder what the specs will be..

Hi Eggy,
There looks like there could be a decent bump in performance. Although we won't know until we start getting reviews. Definitely exciting with X99 releasing today and the Maxwell cards in September. http://www.lazygamer.net/general-news/leaked-nvidia-800-series-benchmarks-show-massive-performance-jumps/ |

Do I gamble and try to sell my 780ti to someone not "in the know" before these get announced?
Obviously if they get delayed would screw me haha |

Interesting report on some benchmarks for the 970 & 980. If it's true and the price is what they're saying ($399 for 970), these cards looks to be a winner...

Totally. If all of this information holds, a release is going to be very promising - definitely worth holding out for, I'd say. |

those specs are pure speculation from what i've read. i'm betting we see similar performance to their 7-series cards at lower power usage with (perhaps) a little more vram.

Well, actually everything at this point is speculation in reality. That said, I can't see NVIDIA putting out it's next tier of cards without better performance than the 7 series. However, only time will tell but it's definitely worth waiting to see prior to purchasing at this point.
