Hi All.
Haven't been on the forum much since I bought my last DSO system in Oct 2007. I'm finding with Bf3 that my sli 8800 ultras can't hack the pace anymore, so I've been looking the last week to get back up on step with all the new hardware, and of course wouldn't dream of ordering until I get the once over from the helpful gang in the forum.

I'm gaming at 1920 X 1280 native 60hz on a Hanns-G 24" monitor.
My current system has 2 X 150Gb 10,000 RPM Velociraptors in RAID and a 300Gb HDD which I will likely cannibalize - along with the suggestion to wait until 1Tb prices drop - to get me by on storage for now.
After I created this config below I've decided to go for a 160Gb SSD instead of 120Gb.
SLI's a must, but I swear I am bamboozled by the differences in the mobo's and I've only selected the one I did based on DST4me's other suggestions for having a SLI requirement.  Can I just get someone to give me a primer on how the chipsets and pro/delux/extreme differ, and how each one would be best used?

Will ask for fan and Vcore under 1.4 (They must LOOOVE hearing that all the time!)

Finally, why the recommendation for Windows 7 Pro over Home Edition? Not much difference in price but what's the upside for a non-power user?

So here's the config: Ticket number 64555. Cost after discount and before shipping = $2828.00

You want to be between v-pro or deluxe, extreme for 967/z68 is pointless.

You config looks great, I would go to stage 2 oc and

Ask DS specifically for this fan to be added to the top, so you endup with 4 x 200mm fans:

haf 200mm non led fan

Ask for vcore lower then 1.4 for your oc.

Hi DST4me.  Thanks for the feedback.
When you first posted, I followed your link and found the fan you recommended.
I was filling out my order form today, clicked on the link again and it says "product not found."  Has this fan been discontinued?  Could you suggest a replacement?
Also, what benefit would I see over Windows 7 Pro over the Windows 7 Home edition?  Both are 64 bit, no? Not a developer here by any stretch, so is the extra 30 bucks getting me anything I'll use?
Just waiting for your reply to submit my order.

Pro can use more ram, has xp mode, remote desktop, network and etc, if non of those are important to you go with home pro, yes they should both be 64bit.

CM keeps running out of those fans, ask DS for the non led 200mm oem fan to be added to the top, maybe they have some around, if not we either go led version of it or you wait and put it in yourself when CM has it back in stock.

Ok, just ordered, wish me luck in beating the 15 day window.

I'll wait until CM fans restock then put one in myself.  If I can't do that I shouldn't be trusted with a fighter jet.

Thanks again for the help.  It may become stale to you making the same points over and over again, but for those of us who pop our heads out of the hole every few years to see what's new, it's positively reassuring to have your opinion knowing you stay current with the latest and greatest in custom builds.

You ever find yourself in the Pacific Northwest, the scotch is on me.
