I have a single AMD Radeon HD 7970 graphics card in my PC. For the past few months the GPU temp began spiking as high as 95-97C, and the fan sounds like a lawn mower (I did narrow the noise down to the fan on the graphics card).

A couple of times this week my computer crashed mid-game because I didn't tab out of the game to wait for the GPU temperature to come down before resuming playing. So before the darn thing just melts, I'm looking to put on a new fan. My problem is, apparently there isn't that much choice in replacement fans for such a high-end card.

I think my best option (out of very few available) is the Arctic Accelero Xtreme, but before I spend the whole weekend trying to get that massive thing installed, I wanted to check and see if someone might have any better suggestions. Thanks.

Doing a quick search online, that looks like the best option to keep your GPU cool... Here's a comparison on Tom's Hardware...
HailStorm II
i7 4770K @ 4.5GHz
Asus Maximus VI Extreme
16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum
3xSLI EVGA SuperClocked GTX TITAN
Samsung 840Pro SSD 256GB+512GB
HydroLux+XSPC CPU/MoBo/GPU Liquid Cooling

Guys ignore tom's its full of bs and one of the least creditable places on the net.

good sites are like guru3d, anandtech, techpowerup, hardware heaven, and maybe a couple of more.

Problem as you figured out is your fan or heatsink or both.

Have you tried just re-applying some thermal paste and re-seating the heatsink first?

If your gpu is under warranty I would just replace the gpu.
