Greetings,

I recently joined the forum in an attempt to look for advise regarding my specs. I'm planning to retire my 5 years old PC to a new one.

The PC use will be mainly for gaming with extensive graphic with several video and image editing here and there. One thing that should be noticed is that sometimes I left my PC on for weeks so cooling feature is really important for me.

So far this is what I have http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=195217

Please let me know what do you guys think.

Thanks,
Moon

when you say video and image editing, you mean just regular stuff right? nothing like 3D graphic design and stuff like that?

what resolution are you going to be gaming at?

depending on your answer, we need to adjust the number of your GPUs or lower your PSU

Thanks DST4ME

And to answer your question, I don't really use my gaming PC for 3D graphic stuffs. Mostly just AdobePhotoshop editing and several light Video Editing.

My gaming resolution is 1680x1050.

Thanks again,
Moon

ok then so you don't need the 8GB of ram, only 4 as I had configured.

now as for gpu, here are some senarios.

1. you keep the one gtx 280 and the psu, but you are going to add another gpu later down teh road.

2. you go with 2 gpus now and keep the psu.

3. you keep one gpu and lower the psu to 750w, in this case you are never going to add another gpu and you are fine with what ever your card can do at 1680x 1050 resolution.

here is the thing, if you want to play games at hi settings at that resolution, 2 gpus are recommended.

either that or we change your mombo and gpu and go with the ati 4870x2 2GB.

what do you think?

and its my pleasure to be able to help you

What do you think?

I'm planning this PC to at least hold me off for another 5-6 years, should I go with the 2 GPUs?

Thanks,
Moon

you are very welcome

yes go 2 GPUs for-sure, your resolution and how long you want to keep that PC both point toward you going with 2. now keep in mind that the ati 4870x2 does the job of 2 cards when you are talking high resolutions like yours.

Sorry to bother you again, but what will the final setup be? If you could do the ticket system again, that'd be awesome.

Thanks,
Moon

No, you show me a pc that was tweaked and ran faster then before it was tweaked, when the system has these specs:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.0GHz (1333MHz FSB) (12MB Cache)

System Memory: 4GB DDR3 1333MHz OCZ

Hard Drive 1: 300GB Western Digital VelociRaptor (10K RPM) (16MB Cache) (Extreme Speed)

this whole tweak business and performance is from teh days of sinle core systems with 1.5GB of ram or lower.

these systems DS is putting out, will jugle 4 vista-s at the same time and not even wink.

with vista you just want to disable the uac and take control of the folder permissions. after that there is not really any tweak you can do that you will see performance from, on top of that any tweaking you want to do, just ask me and I will show you for free spend your $50 on your hardware

now indays, systems with 4GB not only won't see no speed gains from tweaking but also they don't even need to use the pagefile.

Speaking of pagefile, people (ones you probably want to line up and kick in the ass) say that turning off pagefile w/ 4 gigs of ram isnt a good idea.

where do I stand on it? I'll tell you:

after 4 years of haveing many pcs without the pagefile enabled, and I'm talking for example a p4 2.0GHz with 4GB of ram, I don't see what the problem with it being off is.

so yes, line them up they need a
