Hi all, I was asking Robert questions through e-mail, but I think I've annoyed him too much with noobish questions so I was hoping it would get answered here:

I currently have a 17" in. monitor.  Is there an advantage in getting a 512mb gfx card over a 256mb? I remember reading somewhere that a gfx card with more memory is only really beneficial if you play at higher resolutions.  I can't check to see and I can't remember if I could go at a higher resolution than what I had because my computer's gfx card blew out.  But I used to have my desktop resolution at 1280 x 1024 and also played WoW at the same resolution with an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256.

Do 17" in. monitor's normally go above 1280x1024 resolution? and if so, would I benefit from getting the 8800GT 512 over the 256 one? If it can't go over that resolution, would I still benefit anyways? or am I just wasting money on a 512mb gfx card that performs as well as a 256mb?

A 512+ MB card will let you play games at a higher resolution and it also allow you to run games that require a 512 MB RAM with all special effects ( Full AA/AF). The lower memory card doesn't have enough memory to load all the ultra high textures.

Your video card can support more than 1280x1024 but i wouldn't run it any higher since your 17" monitor can't support a higher resolution.

As far as performance both cards have similar performance.
